The term hidden gem is very appropriate for this restaurant as you can easily pass by it and not even realise it is hiding a massive luxurious dining space downstairs. I had a voucher for a 3 course meal and thought I should treat my boyfriend(who kinda felt we were not posh enough to be there at the beginning when we got in). The restaurant reminded me of some great restaurants my grandma used to take me back home when we had something to celebrate because of the amazing food and brilliant service. To start from the beginning, on coming in the staff took our coats to hang so that we did not have to take them with us and led us downstairs. We were given bread and butter and chose our wine. The staff was very attentive throughout the night but at the beginning seemed to look to my boyfriend for decisions regarding the wine and general arrangements even if he would then immediately ask me about it. Thankfully that stopped when they realised I was the one who would be deciding on such details. On to the food, for starters I chose the beetroot and goats cheese salad which was really nice, however I tried the fish soup that my boyfriend got and wished I had picked that instead because I thought is was amazing. We were offered a champagne sorbet palate cleanser which I would love to get my hands on on a regular basis as it was incredibly refreshing. My main was hands down the best beef medallions I have tried, cooked to perfection and for me the star of the meal. The bf’s lamb pasta with courgettes was also delicious and was more on the homely side. For dessert we had a baked Alaska, which was absolutely spot on and was perfectly blending the cold ice cream with the slight heat of a freshly blowtorched meringue. We were also offered a shot of limoncello in traditional Italian fashion and had a small chat with the staff about the history of the restaurant. Their original restaurant by Liverpool Street has been around for over 20 years, with staff who have also stayed with them for years and loyal customers who have been regulars for at least a decade. It is the kind of restaurant you always go with your family because by now you just know everybody and they know what you like. Their newest addition definitely had the same potential but is also a great place for company dinners and business deals over a good meal due to its position in the city. I would definitely recommend going there for a special occasion or for a couple of drinks upstairs if you prefer. And since Christmas is around the corner you may also want to keep them in mind for your office Christmas lunch.
