They have skull candles in the window and I need one. Plus they have the Rabbit lamps that you can also find in Aria and SKK — didn’t have opportunity to do a price comparison as I had left my detective notebook at home. They always have fun ‘stuff’ in here — which is useful if you have a fun stuff deficit in your life. Don’t get over excited in here though, it’s easy to do but you can find the same stuff for less if you are inclined to shop around. Service is good-looking if you know what I mean…

There are a few Gill Wing shops altogether, if this is the right one they have a huge collection of teapots over the counter. I was fascinated by the ice cube letters, which can also be used for jelly, and the automatic soap dispensers. I also like the little fake mix tapes that conceal memory sticks. They currently have a reduced radio control stealth boat in teh window, but I don’t know exactly where you’d run it.

The Gill Wing empire, which now incorporates a number of shops, started off as this small gift shop on Upper Street, which is always packed with a range of interesting gift ideas. If you don’t mind spending a little, you will definitely find something for everyone here, from gardeners to babies. Because of its location near posh areas such as Barnsbury and Canonbury, you are also very likely to bump into celebrities who live locally and seem to like to shop here. While the service is good and friendly, and gift-wrapping is available, it can get a little bit cramped if there are more than a few customers in the shop, and the wares aren’t cheap. Worth a look but don’t do all of your Christmas shopping here.
