I visited Giraffe last week during a training evening prior to it’s opening so that they could test their staff and the kitchens to ensure a smooth opening. I was very impressed — the restaurant ran very smoothly and we waited no longer than usual for food or for our orders to be taken. Then only thing I did notice, and I don’t know whether it was nerves or not but the staff were far too friendly. Their eyes were too wide, smiles to big and have a primary teacher level of enthusiasm which just felt really intense and made us a little uncomfortable! I did write that on my feedback form! The food is comparable to most chain restraints but as it’s a Mexican restaurant I’d say it’s a definite cut above Chiquitos! We tried the iced tea(which is served like a cocktail) as well as the smoothies which were both absolutely gorgeous. I LOVE their cocktail mixers which are wee giraffes WITH A BODYANDLEGS. It’s so cute! I ordered enchiladas and a side of guacamole — they should definitely serve that as standard. The enchiladas were beautiful and topped with a kind of seed mixture and served with a delicious, fresh and dressed salad. The Mexican chicken burger was lovely but the burger bap did fall apart a bit. For desserts we tried the tiramisu sundae and the banana waffles. The sundae was rubbish to be honest — barely any resemblance to tiramisu. It tasted nice and was edible, but it was just so plain. The banana waffles were absolutely to die for! When I’m in shopping if definitely go back for a spot of lunch! The restaurant has a vibrant atmosphere and the décor is fab.
