The Golden Gate baked goods are exceedingly reliable and satisfying but the same can not be said of the Chinese desserts that they attempt to offer here. For example, the red/green bean pudding and milk pudding that they offer are noticeably not fresh and taste either diluted after preparation or prepared from canned products. The end result is not unpleasant but at the same time is not ideal and a little too watery. The mango ice cream cake however is a joy to try! Meanwhile I do appreciate the fact that a variety of dessert is available as I feel the opportunities to have Chinese dessert are diminishing and so each establishment that serves them is in my good books!

This is my favourite place to go to for Chinese desserts, especially when I’m stuck in this area waiting for friends to arrive, or have maybe 30min to an hour to spare. They have a small counter with Chinese cream cakes at the front, and you can also order customised cakes. Takeaway is available here, or you can sit in the café itself to eat the desserts. Mind you, they have limited seating. There are about 6 tables at the top floor and sometimes they open downstairs seating if there are just too many people coming in at the same time. The service is good, there are usually two ladies in the store. You order what you want it arrives not long afterwards. This is a very homely place and a quiet place apart from other customers chatting, so you could do a good catch up with friends. I usually order black sesame dumplings in ginger soup, or tofu dessert. Their drinks are nice too, but do take it easy because Chinese desserts have a lot of sugar in them!
