In all honesty this review was abou to be bad, but the amazing works of Peter at the bar and his assistants proved this place to be one of my Forever Favorites. You know that meal you want before you die? Yeah, this is one of those places. Get the steak on the heat stone, forget the other stuff and just do it. Pick your sauces and when it’s delivered with the side of one of Peter’s artistic drink creations(yes he makes a Real Old-Fashioned like he owns a time machine). This meal makes me want to cry now that it’s over. No I’m not being dramatic. Get thee over here with the quickness.

Had zero expectations, but was very happy, the ribeye was great, the mussels were awesome and the onion rings were too good. The waiter was trying hard but too few and the kitchen took longer than the steak to get us the sauces. Still I give it 4 stars. It was yummy.

Among our best London dinner experiences so far. We came upon the Green Door on our way back to our hotel after a tour. The steaks listed on the menu and the appearance of the place appealed to us. We ordered apps bacon wrapped scallops for me and French onion soup for Betty. Both were delicious and served quickly. Our entrees of rib eye for me and sliced sirloin for Betty. Both were cooked to a nice med-rare and were very flavorful. We shared sides of mixed veggies, potatoes au gratin, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes. The potatoes au gratin were a bit bland but everything else was great especially the creamed spinach. In the end it was one of the best meals we have had so far here in London and one of the pricier also but well worth it.

I was very disappointed by the service at this establishment. I have had better service at diner’s. First of all, they pack this place so that each table is 6 inches apart on both sides. You can imagine the noise volume. Don’t expect anything extra at this place like a bread basket(3.5 pounds). You might as well be paying for the napkin you use. My steak was served with 5 grape tomatoes and that’s it. The sauce and side was not included although the waiters would make you believe so. The manager was extremely rude and sought to fight me over 8 pounds worth of discrepancies in the bill even though our meal for two was still over 70 pounds. I’ve never paid so much for such poor service and bad experience. My friend enjoyed the Wellington but I would recommend a different place.

Green Door Steakhouse is over in West London, and directly opposite a Nando’s. And I’m not going to lie to you, Unilocalers. I only decided to step inside the steakhouse because the queue for mass-manufactured peri peri chicken was going out the door. Green Door is a pretty large restaurant, but they do pack people in — you won’t be too distracted by people sat nearby, but you will be very aware that they’re there. Especially if you’re sat where we were, alongside a mirrored wall populated solely with couples. It was kinda like being sat diner style, but in a classy setting. Very odd. I usually expect steakhouses to bring out bread and butter whilst you study the menus, but there was nothing at Green Door. Instead, I opted for a fillet steak(medium rare) and my date went for a Risotto. The steak was nice, though lacked the tenderness I usually expect from a good fillet cut. The Risotto however, wasn’t very good — my date doesn’t care for mushrooms, and there was no mention that this dish had mushroom on the menu. Big faux pas. That said, the ambience in the restaurant is nice, and the service is decent. Aside of an incident where our waitress took our empty dishes away and then accidentally dropped them over another table’s coats(placed on their chairs), they were as attentive as you could expect for a packed out restaurant. All in all, I won’t be rushing out to go back to Green Door. There are better quality steakhouses in London, but for the moderate price range, this isn’t the worst shout in West London.

Had an amazing dinner here! I travel alone for work frequently and often am made to feel bad for dining alone and reading. I was promptly greeted and seated in a quiet area with other single diners reading! Had a wonder fillet of beef, cooked medium rare, and it was every tender; melted in my mouth. I finished my meal with a sticky toffee pudding with custard that was amazing! It was the perfect size for one person! I will definitely dine here again.

We had only had a late breakfast and some afternoon tea the day we visited Green Door. We were on our way back to the hotel, and had stopped at our tube station, but were feeling a little bit too hungry to go to bed. So we looked around and the only places to eat were a crowded pub, Burger King, and this place. So we stepped in, and it was only one company left in the restaurant, and we realised it was really late — maybe too late. The waiter asked us if it was past 10.30 — and we answered ‘yes, we guess so’, and prepared ourselves to be showed out. But then he said; ok, than it’s alright … very strange, but we were happy. We shared a plate of their«The American» starters, and it was the BEST ribs I’ve ever had. It was the best we ate under this weekend we had, this time, in London. And so service minded to serve us despite the late hour!

It’s London, not New York, let’s get that straight at the beginning. You need to view it through the London lens, not the NY lens, Service, food quality, temperature of steak, price — all apples/oranges no matter which restaurant you choose. If you’re going here expecting Luger’s? Yeah of course it’s a 2. If you’re going for a solid meal in a tough eating town known for its hockey-puck-style meat, it’s pretty darn good. I had a pretty good meal, went early(6:30pm was starving, only about 7 tables in the entire rather-large restaurant were eating) and the service therefore was very attentive. Caesar salad to start, was fine. Inline with expectations. Nothing to blow your doors off but it’s a salad at a steakhouse, fair enough. Wine, a good tannic Malbec, healthy pour(mL regulated over here), really tasty by the glass, obviously a fresh bottle. Then came the main event. I was astounded by two things: quality, and temperature. The meat was very high quality, unusual. And temperature, I ordered the 10oz filet(fillet) medium rare, and it came, medium rare. Usually in these parts, you have to order-up in terms of temperature: Medium Rare is usually Medium, and Medium is Med-Well(best case). I was very pleased. And the outside of the filet was seared, so it had a nice crispyness to the crust. Not a ton of flavor in the meat, but I had something like a peppercorn sauce, was nice, I didn’t use too much but was certainly nice to have. Long story short, good solid meal, good value for the money for a 10oz filet(in Kensington) and actually well above average service. I’d recommend it.

I visited the Green Door Steakhouse during my trip to London for a ‘decent’ dinner out. We were staying in Kensington and this place was close to our hotel and looked pretty fancy pants compared to other restaurants around so we decided to give it a try. First, if you value your privacy or are claustrophobic, don’t eat here. The seating can be extremely cramped. It felt like we were sitting family style with 5 other couples along a mirrored wall… weird. The food was good and reasonably priced, but nothing I ran home and told everyone about.

Well, unfortunately I was really disappointed, probably I expected had too much. Starting with the signature dish baked camembert left me a bit unsatisfied, as the red jam just looked like any random cheap jam you could get from the super market. I then went for the fillet steak, which was unfortunately a little bit overdone. It became better after a few bites, but still the first impression was not as good as I had hoped for The chips looked nice and crunchy, but felt a bit too soft for my taste. Anyway, the steak was bigger than I expected, so you probably won’t really need a starter. The wine list looks promising, and I went for a nice glass of white. It tasted quite good, and my glass was filled very generously. Not too bad! At the end I couldn’t resist to order a dessert, but after the enormous steak, I could unfortunately not finish the dessert. But still, it was delicious. Altogether, Green Door Steakhouse is not the worst place for a steak, but I’m afraid I must say, that I’ve had much better steaks in London.

We visited The Green Door recently as my bf’s parents were in town and it was close to their hotel. Being in the mood for steak, this is what the father out-law chose. And I’m glad he did. The service was slow, but it was good service. We all had steak. I had the ribeye which was juicy and full of flavor. The menfolk had the peppercorn steak and both seemed to love it. The step-mother out-law had a small steak of some sort with the hosue special sauce(a red wine sauce). She didn’t care for hers as much, but I think this was more down to it being a bit more pink than she liked than to the steak itself. Alongside my steak I had the cheddar popovers. The waitress described them as being«a bit like yorkshires, but with cheese.» Now, I know what a popover *should* be. It should be tall, and popped over! These were 3 tiny, not-very-tall yorkshires with cheese. Oops. Still, while they weren’t popovers, they *were* quite tasty. Dessert was delicious. Lemon tart was melt-in-your-mouth yummy. Others had the chocolate fondant & ice cream which was also delicious(I *might* have stolen a couple bites!). The Green Door is pricey. But it’s in Kensington and also near lots of hotels and museums and other tourist-type-things. They know they have a captive audience. I’d definitely return here, though. Yum.

Oh wow, my bad, I didn’t know we can review restaurants outside the US until I scrolled down the Unilocal page… hella cool!!! I dined at this restaurant back in April 2010 with my Mom and best friend. The place is very modern and very minimalist in décor, bur very posh looking. This restaurant was just walking distance from my hotel(Crowne Plaza Kensington). We had Rib Eye steak and Top Sirloin steak and lotsa red wine. The salad was very good, the shaved cheddar cheese on top was an added bonus. However, you have to pay for the salad separately, it did not come with the meal. Service was outstanding, the bill was outrageous but we were on vacation so no big deal. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at this restaurant.

This steakhouse was close to our hotel and filled our craving for a steak adequately. I mean we take a good steak for granted in North America but its surprising how hard can it be to find a decent steak when you crave it. We ordered a prawn cocktail(terrible IMO) and I went for the Filet and my father had the rib eye with a side of peppercorn sauce. The Steaks were done to our liking. The house red was bleh! Service was immaculate and even the Manager came over twice to ask about our dining experience. We spend a reasonable amount of money here but that is to be expected in London for a half decent steak. 3.5 Stars.

The Green Door Steakhouse was located a few minutes from our hotel, so we decided to give it a try during our London stay. Was it good? Well, let’s just say we visited it 2 more times while we were there. The service was a bit slow, but the staff was very friendly. The food itself was pricey, however I enjoyed everything I had there. My Beef Wellington was delicious, though the mashed potatoes could have been warmer. On my next visit I had the Pepper Encrusted Steak, and it was amazing. So while it’s not perfect, my friends and I really enjoyed dining at the Green Door.

This is the first time I write a review that’s nearly similar to others on so I went upon recommendation from a friend that this place serves better steak than black and blue(which is on the opposite side of the road). the restaurant has this 1970−80s vibe and decoration, nothing really fancy of the range. just a regular diner with an utmost service– yes the service there is amazing– staff are always smiling, constantly checking that everything is going to your taste, never show any dismay to repalce a salad that was ordered by mistake, etc. the problem is the food is not good at all– the steak– which is their speciality– is not quite an experience I had quite a struggle trying to cut the meat with the knife they provided, so did my company… the meal wan’t good and the price was really hefty!!! overall… not going back at all– there are million other steak places in London that are way better than this diner

First of all, if you’ve experienced Ruth Chris’ in the US then run, do not walk the other way. Stayed in a hotel right across the street for the week and thought of going here after theatre, so the night prior we stopped in an asked how later they stayed open. 11:30…no problem. Well, when we arrived the next night at 10:45 for dinner we had eyes rolled at us and begrudgingly they seated us and left us with menus. About five minutes later the Polish waitress came over and said«Do you know what you want?» Not«Hello and welcome to the Green Door… have you eaten here before? Are you familiar with our menu? We said that we wanted to order drinks and they arrived promply enough. btw, the restaurant was about half full, with another large party coming into the restaurant after us so it wasn’t like we were the only ones there or anything. We said that we needed a few more minutes to look at the menu and when she returned(with even more attitude) we addressed the issue with her…“You look like you don’t want to be here… should we perhaps try another restaurant?» Surprised by our forwardness she perked up and said it was a long day and she was tired. She improved a little after that. We ordered food and then a bottle of Pinot(i believe). The menu had a 2005 Pinot and she brough 2008. I asked is she had an 05 and she said«no.» Then the obvious… well why do you have it on the menu? And she wouldn’t adjust the price so we paid for an 05 Pinot and got an 08. The food arrived and although my filet was done properly, it was extremely dry, as were the mustard mashed potatoes. Garlic mushrooms were good. Also there were only three servers working in the restaurant… no management representation so there was no one with which I could adress the issue. I’ve had much better elsewhere and recommend going elsewhere.

I had a chance this past week to go to the Green Door Steakhouse again. When I arrived at 5pm, the restaurant was empty, but other diners started to show up a few minutes later. When ordering, I asked for some bread and the waiter brought out a cutting board with some excellent rolls and butter. I noticed that the other tables were not served bread and people were sitting idle, waiting for their orders, so it looks like you have to ask. For the main course, I had a 10oz. ribeye steak with 3 tiger prawns on the side, a salad and a side of garlic mushrooms. You can choose from a variety of sauces on the steak and I had wanted to try the«Green Door Special» but forgot to tell the waiter. So my steak showed up sans sauce. But, that was just as well. The steak flavor was excellent and I am hard pressed to say which was better, the steak or the amazing side of garlic sauteed mushrooms. The prawns served with the steak were a bit dry. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate cake, baked with melted chocolate inside and a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. This was the perfect end to the meal! The only problem I had with the meal was that the entrée plate was cold which caused the steak and shrimp to cool off before I could finish the salad. I mentioned this to the waiter, who apologized and said the plates were supposed to be well heated before serving. However, no compensation was offered, which in most establishments would at least get you a free dessert.
