Expect big portions of typical portuguese fare, for very reasonable prices. Menu has a good selection of seafood and meats, we had the octopus and potatoes, mixed fried seafood(which comes with literally a cast iron casserole pot of rice and greens as a «side»), and sardine starter. It was hard to finish the large platters, but equally hard to stop eating the well seasoned food. Restaurant is about a five minute walk from the Stockwell tube station. Well worth a visit if you’re longing for your favourite Lisbon tasca.

This is one of the best portuguese restaurants in London serving typical food at really decent prices. Had octopus«a lagareiro» which tasted brilliantly. Portions are huge(you could probably even share) and as mentioned in previous reviews the house wine is really worth going for. Meals range in prices but expect something around 20£ish for a meal with drinks. Worth it, and will comeback for sure :-)

Don’t be deceived by the boring exterior, you’re in for a real treat. I ordered broiled white fish. They brought family style portions of chips, rice, salad. The atmosphere was very lively and had lots of families. It was really inviting. From what I remember it was good value for money because it was honestly so much food. I have wanted to come back for a while with a friend who lives around the corner. Who’s going to join me?

— Food is average for the price. — Staff is ok. — Booked a table to 9.30pm and we only were allowed to get in at 11.10pm … Better options in Stockwell for a Portuguese Restaurant! First and last time there for me.

Grelha D’Ouro is an amazing Portuguese restaurant in Stockwell. The area has a large Portuguese community and everyone in the restaurant seemed to be Portuguese speakers except us. The atmosphere is authentic down the the lengthy time it takes to get food which was one of my main memories from Portugal. The portions are huge and our individual orders were supplemented by a large plate of chips, rice and salad. There is also ample bread given free before we ordered. I had a steak which was huge and I barely finished it. The prices are very reasonable and I will definitely return next time I am in the Stockwell area.

The best portuguese in London so far that has accessible prices, or in fact cheap as hell! The food is homemade, and apart from rare exceptions is always delicious. I can’t recommend the bacalhau à braz and the grilled fish enough as they are absolutely delicious. And the environment is TYPICAL portuguese restaurant, which makes it for me a funny place to visit in the middle o London. The house wine is extremely well chosen and priced too — buying somthing as good as that goes up to £15 retail price, so a glass for £4 pounds is a bargain. Get typical, go on an empty stomach and ask for the cod cakes for starters.

Tricky. Tricky for a number of reasons. Wel, two reasons. Firstly, because I was watching Portugal’s opening game of Euro 2008 with some Portuguese friends, and secondly because I chose the wrong damn thing from the menu. Stockwell’s a pretty Portuguese sort of place anyway, and on this particular evening the Grelha d’Ouro(Golden Grill, I know, cheesy huh) was packed to the gills with chirpy chatty people. Men who look a bit like Cristiano Ronaldo. Men who look nothing like him, but have opted for his stupid haircut anyway. And plenty of lovely ladies. It seemed very friendly, but I suspect that was something to do with all my co-diners being Portuguese, and doing all the mundane talking /ordering /inquiring stuff for me. So why on earth did I choose the Bacalhau, which I know to be rather heavy and extremely fishy? I could have had what looked like a tasty beef /pork escalope affair with crispy sauteed potatoes and I would have been perfectly happy. But noooo I chose a hash of salted cod and potato which is great for the first few bites, then gets very heavy and gradually impossible tozzzzz. Poor decisions aside, it was a fun evening. The place is ultra-simple, but that’s no bad thing at all. And the starters were great: nice fresh calamares and grilled king prawns are hard to make a mess of, but these were excellent examples of the genre. So nice place. It’s a long way from me, and I wouldn’t normally cross the river to go there, but if I was in the area I’d stand a return visit.
