I really like this library. It has an extensive collection of books relating to London. Additionally they have ample seating. There is even computers connected to the internet! The bonus is that is very quiet so you can concentrate and get things done. I will visit again when I have to browse!

Guildhall Library is a very useful place for research about all sorts of subjects and very much also family history! The library has microfilms of City of London parish registers as well as many other documents: fire insurance policies, wills(other than PCC wills), etc! If you are looking for a marriage: make sure to check Boyd’s first, his index covers quite a lot of City of London ground(available there on microfiche). A Saturday is a good day to visit, it is not too crowded and you don’t have to take time off work. The bookshop is unfortunately not open on Saturdays. Guildhall Library also do behind the scenes tours on e.g. restoration of printed material: absolutely fascinating! There is a Starbucks not too far away near St Paul’s which is open on Saturday for your lunch, most other places are closed but you may want to try the area towards Moorgate.
