Had the fish and chips on a Saturday at lunch time. We expected it to be crowded, which was fine. The food was decent, nothing special, but for the price that we paid we definitely expected more. No sides, just plain fish and chips for £7 including soda. After all it is a food chain so the expectations were not too high.

Ok, the portion size does not stand a chance with my local chippy but it is Friday and it is customary to have fish and chips on a Friday, right? With all the hustle and bustle of street food, food festival, pop ups and supperclubs, I should be ashame to shy away from some great food and take refuge to a fast food place. The one in Startford is(unfortunately?) bunk into the same category of all the other multi-national fast food chains. After that documentary, I actually thought that Harry Ramsden was worth a try. But, I don’t know if their location in Startford is doing anything good to their reputation. Anyway, on to the food — it is not a whole battered fish but fillets of fish; very child friendly. I had the meal deal which came with a drink. It wasn’t anything great and they were a little mean on the sauces. Just the thought of deep fried food and keeping in tradition with fish and chips on a Friday.

Really a 3.5 but I’m feeling jet lagged and generous so I give it 4 stars. This is not your mom and pop’s fish and chips. It’s pretty much a chain restaurant that just happens to be conveniently located near the Waitrose at the mall. I opted for the standard fish and chips and as they go, they were pretty good. It was still early in the day, so I was glad to see everything was cooked to order so my food was delivered fresh and hot. I decided to go bad and have the chips with cheese. Talk about artery-clogging deliciousness. It was so bad for you that it tasted good. * To the fellow Yank below… you must be mistaking«chips» for the American version of French fries. Completely different food items.

Coming straight out of Olympic Park at 11pm, we were looking for something small to eat. We wandered into the Westfield mall, which has three separate food courts on three separate floors. Super unnecessary as this made it really hard to decide what to get –____– Anyways, I figured that I had to try fish & chips while I’m in London, so this should be the perfect chance! However, the employees seemed super uninterested in helping me order and ultimately the food was really whatever. For about £6, we got a regular sized order of fish & chips. I should have known this would be bad when the cashier was like we only have one regular and one small left, meaning the fish had been prepared way early on and was just lying under a heat lamp for the past whatever hours. The fish was bland and the batter skin kept coming off, making it a mess to eat. The chips were also really soft and just not pleasant to eat. Everything was just really dry. We ended up dumping about half of it. Such a waste of money!
