So I happen to own an apartment right next door to this place haha! Anyhoo … I was hungry and thought I’d give it a bash like bashed bananas! Their egg fried rice is the stuff they make stories about which get passed down from generation to generation! Don’t let the paleness of it fool you… It is flavourtown at its best! Mad flavour! Crazy flavour! Flavour supreme! … All types of flavour mate! Their salt and pepper squid is a little overpriced for the amount you get(£7.60). They need to work on that… The taste is good but there was so little of it that my opinion is now biased I’m afraid. The service was alright. Not the usual bows and full teethed smile reception I’m used to from chinese restaurants lol but hey … You can’t have it all! I have to Add the dodgy move that went on with the bill! Before it came the guy said he’d give us a discount… no idea what for but when the bill came we paid exactly what we thought we would but he’d done some dodgy stuff on the receipt so it looked like he’d given us a discount when he in fact hadn’t… What the? No idea what that was about but yeah… mad dodgy! Now the question is. Would I go back? For the egg fried rice YES … To try other stuff? I guess I don’t know.maybe. Maybe not… Im not anti this place but not a huge fan yet so we’ll see.

Went out with family to this restaurant. Food was good, especially the salt and pepper squid, probably one of the best places in London for this dish. Another notable dish was their aubergine and tofu hotpot. The dessert«3 color» was also tasty. Service was dodgy, especially when we told them we don’t really want a white rice refill(we were a party of 11) but they insisted that they will just give us a «little». Well, they ended up giving us a whole new(HUGE) bowl of white rice even though we were clearly done eating. Ended up charging us an extra £26 for the unwanted white rice(wtf). We ended up just paying it as we didn’t want to argue over something so petty in front of family(and they knew it too), but come on! Not cool.

Been there a couple of times last year, not yet in 2015. The room is huge, and the food is great. Cheap, tempted to say like many Chinese restaurants… But food is wY better than your average Chinese takeaway. And please, just for the«All you can Eat» menu, it’s worth the shot! :)

The perfect Chinese place the food and service are on a really high level and there’s obviously a lot of care and imagination in the creation of the interior design. Lovely spot.

This is your best choice if you’re in the search for a quality Chinese restaurant. The place is great and offers traditional food and decoration. I advise you to visit as the restaurant truly offers a nice atmosphere and variety in the menu.

Excellent Chinese restaurant in South London which doubles up as a wedding dinner venue! Its massive inside, and well decorated too. The tables are also spaced out, so its great for more intimate meals. They’re good with seafood dishes, as they have big tank of live lobsters, crabs, etc and you need to be good with seafood in order to cater to the Chinese wedding market. For westerners, they have an all you can eat option, where for a set price you can order as many dishes as you want from a limited a la carte menu. For proper dining, they have a good menu of various dishes from all over China. They also do dim sum, but only until 4pm. Probably one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area, and the price is good too, you can have a good meal for about £10-£15 per head. Review by The London Insider

Typical Chinese decorated restaurant with a water fountain at the front, double happiness sign for weddings and round tables. Pretty good yum cha. Clientele was mostly oriental families when I was a there — very good sign. Good football dumpling — hard to find, good ha gao, fried dough stick rice paper roll — hard to find. Not fantastic but not bad — preserved egg and pork congee, glutenous pork rice in lotus leaf, xiao long baos(soup dumplings) — thick skin and too much meat, which makes them more like siu mai. Overall food was fresh, generously portioned(big dumplings in comparison to others I’ve tried), and very reasonably priced(about 14 servings for 3 with drinks just £13 pp). Their menu has pictures too for yum cha newbies!

I’m a writer from Australia and I like to see the funny side in everything. I am pixelguyx AT gmail DOT com This place is funny. My gay friend and I had a friendly, humorous waiter. No trolleys, it’s a la carte, but the dim sum are tasty and as tasty as you will get in London without breaking the bank.

Went for Dim Sum for father’s day(on a Sunday around 11am)… At first it was a little cold with the air conditioning on. But after food arrived which was overall very good quality and quantity you seem to warm up a bit. The décor at times lets it down a bit along with the location. But I have to say given a bit more work on some areas in terms of looks and it could get even more custom. The bill for 3 ppl came to around £10 each when you add it all up. They also do an all you can eat buffet at 12£. A really nice place for a family meal Kids can run around freely and the staff interact/pass by in a very professional manner.

Great place. used to have a cheap buffet but had to stop as people would take out containers and empty all onto plate(yes, literally). but now offer cheaper bigger portions in main part. nice staff. gets a little crowed sometimes though !!!

Hong Kong city is a large Chinese restaurant on the Old Kent Road. It has limited parking outside. The set menus are excellent with a not-too-long menu for individual dishes and the food really is very good, especially their ‘sizzling’ dishes. Some nights(every Friday?) you will be treated to Paul ‘Elvis’ Chan, who does renditions of the king, singing to you at the table and often inviting patrons to join in karaōke style. So bad it’s brilliant, we were in fits of laughter. The perfect Friday-night-meal-with-your-mates venue.

I come to HK City mainly for the dim sum, which they serve everyday until 5pm. The choice and quality is value for money compared to some of the places I’ve been to in Central London, and although with their refurbishment the prices have gone up slightly and some dishes have shrunken in size, I still enjoy eating here. The place does get extremely busy at the weekend during late afternoon when they hold a number of wedding banquets(it can seat up to 500 people in the main restaurant), so try to eat before 4pm and you’ll be fine. As an update they’ve taken the buffet section away, which I tried once and found it so-so, and meals other than dim sum can be a bit hit and miss depending on whether it’s busy and they have enough staff. Overall however, it’s certainly the best in the area. Definitely recommended.

Hong Kong City is quite a nice place. The food is really nice, you can sit down to a meal or have take out or have their buffet. You can eat from the buffet in the restaurant or have it as take out. The reason I gave them quite a low star rating is because I don’t like the way if you do decide to have the buffet as a takeout then a person goes around with you and fills your pot. If you decide to eat the buffet in the restaurant they have a list of rules and regulations you have to follow. But other then this it’s quite a nice place to eat.
