I am a big fan of site-specific theatre and an even bigger fan of forgotten gothic sites around London, especially catacombs and prisons … The House of Detention ticks all the right boxes and I was thrilled to find out about this amazing space via the Southwark Playhouse who currently host Belt Up Theatre’s Macbeth here. Whether you are a fan of Shakespeare or not, the venue alone is worth the entry fee. And the acting is actually rather good, too, and felt in keeping with how the play would have been performed originally.
