Hub is a bit pricey, but has a good collection of accessories and clothes. I love the shoes and bags in here, though I always find something I like, I often force myself to walk out as its pretty much out of my budget. It never stops me from looking though! They have a sale on every summer, which is probably one of the best shopping highlights of the year. Everything in the store is usually half price or less. I got a great pear of jeans that are like a second skin by now. I love the earrings in here too. Try to look, but be warned, its hard to walk away!

Up until this week, I have avoided Hub– their window displays are generally quite middle aged and unappealing but recently I was drawn in by a patent leather bag, and I was pleasantly surprised. They have an excellent range of accessories– a wide selection of leather boots and handbags, and a very useful range of tights and stockings(no need to go down to Shoreditch or Angel if you get a hole in your tights) They also have some beautiful Princess Tam Tam underwear and sleepwear which, like the rest of the stock, is not cheap. The fact that you can get brands like Princess Tam Tam and See by Chloe on Stoke Newington Church Street is pretty impressive though, regardless of price.

One of those annoying shops that takes control of your motor skills, forcing you to delve spasmodically into your handbag(that you probably bought here) and get out your credit card. Again. It is seriously best avoided if you, like me have been affected by the dreaded credit crunch, however, if you, like me, would prefer to pretend to the bank and to yourself that the credit crunch is a cereal and not a financial crisis, go there now and buy everything before Shoreditch finds out. I went there today actually. There is one on either side of the road, his and hers, so whichever way I walk home it’s unavoidable. My trendy little hipster friend from New York bought a rabbit fur pork pie hat and afterwards we chatted to the sales assistants for a while. They were friendly, genuine and not pushy which are qualities almost impossible to find in boutique staff. Hub stock several quirky, off the beaten track designers like Acne, Chie Mihara and Ally Capellino, also designer diffusion lines such as See by Chloe and Sonia by Sonia Rykiel. They do bags, shoes, jewellery, underwear and accessories so you would have to be pretty picky(or financially responsible) to leave empty handed.

Hub is a great little boutique for stylish, simple day wear from some cool brands. Catering to a fairly broad spectrum of ages, you could happily shop here any time from your 20s to your 50s although probably most happily and extensively around the 30-something mark. There are also great accessories and jewellery and staff are friendly and helpful. They also do some attractive and inventive window displays at different times of year.

Hub started out as a women’s clothes shop on Stoke Newington Church Street selling really great, original clothes to a discerning local market … and expanded across the road to include a men’s shop. Both shops stock lines from ‘labels’(See by Chloe, Acne jeans, Mackintosh, Ally Cappelino) as well as supporting local/individual designers of accessories and clothing. The shops do not carry overstated or high street fashion — the lines and stock are all stylish, a little bit unique and turned over quite quickly(so you wont be wearing the same as everyone else … prices are mid to high, though sales are excellent value) … staff are really friendly and helpful and there is a range of good mags to read if you are waiting for a friend/partner to try something on … its a great place for gifts or picking something up for yourself … it’s the kind of place i pop in to when passing and generally leave with a bag or two.
