This is a greasy spoon that does cheap hot fare that won’t break the bank — good place!

I had brunch here for the first time in 15 years the other day and it was frankly… emotional.
In an area that has seen a lot of changes (…) it was great to know this bastion of super-​large fry ups and fabulous mixed grills is still knocking them out without one iota of pretension or affectation.
If not a full time labourer or lorry driver then I recommend as an option after doing something like moving home or after a large night out. Get at least 3 of you in there and get a taste of the old East End circa 1990!

The food here is basic and reasonable enough for the price but is a tad lacking in taste, especially if you have their bland meat and two veg type dinner where they have left the veg standing in liquid and then microwave it up to nuclear temperature. Gravy is thin and just pure bisto. I would perhaps have been a bit more complimentary if one of the very best cafes in London wasn’t a short walk away along Cambridge Heath Road just past Bethnal Green Road on the same side… Nico’s. Nico’s is just incredible. Really fresh-​cooked flavoursome food and real table-​creakers, where if you have my favourite, stewed steak chips and peas, they have to put the chips on a separate dinner plate. If you are standing and wondering outside Hulyas, just take those few steps further to Nico’s.

Good honest food, all day breakfasts. Looks scruffy but clean enough inside. Nothing flash, but always good. York Hall Swimming Pool around the corner, so after a few lengths, why not refuel. Handy for Columbia Flower market on the Sunday, especially if you had a heavy night out and need a good large stomach settler.
