You definitely won’t go wrong coming here. Great rustic atmosphere. Tables inside and outside. Eclectic tunes. Nice staff. Food was pretty good, but I only tried the pulled pork and beef burger so other dishes may have been even better. Good selection from light bites to full-on meals. House white wine was really nice and curious IPA was pretty good, just not quite hoppy enough. All in all, definitely a good place to check out.

This place has far exceeded the expectations I had when I first walked in. No doubt, it is very gastro in its concept, but the relaxed vibe to the place and in particular the high quality of their beer has raised it much higher in my estimations. Their house beer Murdering a Crow is one of the best beers I have had recently and is certainly the best house beer I have ever had. This is backed up by further quality beers from the Old Dairy Brewery and there was even a Curious IPA on keg, which indeed made me curious(next time!). Four pounds a pint though, ouch! A good choice in music aids the mood.

Looks the part, doesn’t deliver. They have decent beers on tap and the open kitchen and rustic benches and chairs and art-house lighting all suggest a care and attention to detail. Unfortunately that ethic doesn’t carry over to the food or service. I ordered a beef and pulled pork burger which came on a brioche bun but was overcooked and pretty tough and salty. The bun was fine, but not particularly fresh. £4 for a pint glass of chips is not great value for money. The salad garnish was fresh but had a very watery dressing which ruined my chips and made the burger bun soggy. The burger on it’s own is £9 which is about £2 too much for what it is. Our waitress was not friendly or unfriendly, just simply getting the job done. We had to wait 10 minutes for our drinks despite there being only a handful of customers and 5 staff in the kitchen and bar. A lime and soda was refreshing as it contains fresh squeezed lime, but £2 was too much and it seems unnecessary to use tiny bottles of soda. Overall the meal was fine, but paying close to £15 for a light lunch seems excessive. The music choice for the afternoon was not the greatest — funky house may get the office crowd going after work, but they could give it a miss till then. I’ll go back for a drink, but not for the food again.

Just stopped into Hundred Crows Rising after a trip to the farmers market and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast while catching a few shy rays of sun. Eggs benedict is served on a think English muffin and coated in an extremely tangy sauce of mustard and tarragon mayonaise. A few slices of crispy baked parma ham stood between the massive muffins, begging to be eaten on their own so their salty flavor wasn’t lost in the sauce. I also tried a few bites of the full English and couldn’t stop reaching for the bacon that tasted as if it had been cooked over roasting coals. The sausage was deliciously crammed with apple pieces. We also tried the anchovy chips and the fried little fish were a nice blast of the sea. I will definitely return — especially because they seemed to have some interesting beers on tap. Plus, the pulled pork and beef burger is calling my name.
