Walked over from our hotel. Took a chance and it turned out to be great. Food was delicious and very resonable! They did change their name to Café Ishaq, but a name is only as good as the food.

A great place to have Indian type cuisine, in a nice restaurant. We had the Gosht Madras(lamb curry), Murgh Chilli Masala, vegetable rice, Daal & Garlic Naan… All were amazing! Great flavors, great spice(heat), and great prices. It was super busy, so the service might have been a little slow, but the food was worth any wait we had. A must try if looking for Indian in the Lambeth area.

I eat a lot of Indian normally, but as eating out can be expensive, I haven’t been doing so much of late. I did a take-away from here a couple of nights ago. You can order online, which is quite nice, although it seemed just as much hassle as calling them on the phone(as they called me to confirm when I wanted my food), and, according to the man at the host table when I paid, more expensive by £0.65(I’m guessing the price of each curry was upped online as there was no service charge). I ordered the palak paneer(creamed spinach with a sort of cheese and listed as sag paneer on their physical menu), began bhaji(eggplant and onion) and a plain naan. You are certainly given a good amount of food. One bread is enough for one person(even me who likes a lot of it) and the 2 curries have lasted me 3 meals. As for the taste, the palak paneer is decent. Not as much paneer cheese as I would have liked but the flavour is good and actually improved on the second day. The began bhaji on the other hand is quite boring. It doesn’t have a lot of spice or flavour. I’ve had other eggplant dishes before made by different restaurants(and people) and they’re much better. The naan is boring and tastes healthy. I like my naan greasy and delicious. Maybe try a flavoured one if you’re looking for something more than essentially plain bread in a round shape? Overall, it was decent. I got(essentially) 3 meals for under a tenner as I did my own rice at home. If you do take-away, I would recommend calling them. Their online menu seems to differ from the one they gave me. The physical menu has much more vegetarian food that I might have tried given the chance. I would try it if you want food in the Lambeth North area and don’t want to go farther afield, but don’t get the eggplant. It’s reasonably priced and although I can’t comment on the meat or the dine-in service, I would give it a go if you’re wanting Indian.

Very good food, but I give this restaurant 3 stars because the service was spotty! It was as if they are a new restaurant and hadn’t figured it out! There were times when the servers were more interested in talking with each other than tending to their customers. Our waiter brought the credit card machine to the table and had to swipe my card 3 times! I think they had good intentions but they need to work on their service!

I am hungry said my visiting friend. It was 11:20pm on a Monday night so that meant kebab or Indian. Luckily there was no open fast food option and this Indian was located at the end of the street. Whilst telling us it was takeaway only because they are open until midnight, we managed to talk our way into getting a table. It wasn’t hard. The place was empty. We gratefully took a seat and ordered. I want to be able to offer you a realistic expectation of this place so I wont mention that the food was served promptly because it should be if you are the only diners and the staff are keen to leave work on time. Instead lets concentrate on the food. The chicken tikka masala was OK but something was missing. A certainkick of taste leaving me wanting another curry dish. The saag aloo was bitty to say the least. No clear consistency of spinach and the potatoes in the dish felt like they met some spice, but only on holiday. Rice was good, but slightly standard. As was the peshwari naan, which was above, average but I expect a certain standard to be met. Finishing up before 12 midnight we were about to ask for the bill as dishes were taken away when we ceased to be the only customers or even the most important customer. For in walked Lembit Opik. You know the Liberal Democrat MP who married a Cheeky girl? I whispered to my friend forgetting she had been in the UK for all of 18 hours. It seems Lembik is a regular here, they were actually staying open late for him, brought him his order and drinks pronto and went well into he witching hour for Mr Opik MP and his aide.

Definitely the best Indian restaurant in the Waterloo area. Traditional somewhat tacky décor(adds to the charm!), Indian music, very friendly staff. They never seem particularly busy in the evenings, but this is probably due to the somewhat remote location. On the plus side you can show up on a Friday night and know they’ll have a table. Average prices for a curry house in my opinion, standard curries at around £6.00, and chef’s specials for around £7.50-£9.00. As for the food, I would recommend Murgh Makani lamb — very tender and nicely flavoured! They’ve also got the creamiest Palak Panir — spinach with paneer cheese — this is on the menu among the vegetarian side dishes. There are plenty of dishes to choose from. I don’t like the house wine, but the second or third cheapest on the menu are pretty good. As for the beer, they serve Kingfisher draught beer, and bottled Cobra. Overall, good value for money and worth checking out if you are in the area(it’s right next to the Imperial War Museum and a 10-minute walk from the Old Vic Theatre).
