I’m not a sushi connoisseur and I have American tastes, so take this review with a grain of wasabi. Of the big chains that do grab-and-go sushi at lunch, I like Itsu the best. This particular Itsu is a regular lunch spot for me and my colleagues. They’re quick to get you in and out and they always have a good variety of sushi, salads, and so on. I try to keep an eye on my calories and I really like the fact that the calories in each item are listed right there next to the price. That’s smart and helpful. None of the other grab-and-go sushi places do that.

The Itsu chain has been expanding quite rapidly in London, offering Japanese food along the lines of the Pret A Manger posh fast food experience This location is brave, locating themselves a few doors down from the Japan Centre or perhaps they’re relying on that group of people who would have an intrinsic love of Japanese food. Perhaps in response to local stiff competition, the décor at this location is rather striking and the restaurant has a very modern contemporary feel to it There’s a nice choice of averagely priced Japanese boxed meals in the refrigerators. However, I come to Itsu for their cheap froyo. They have very limited choice — only original tart flavour and a few fruit and sweet toppings. However, after a large meal, this is the perfect size and the thought of a relatively healthy dessert can even make me feel virtuous!

I’m on a mission to find the best sushi bar within walking distance of work(Wells Street off Ox Street). So far, this is the winner. I like my sushi simple, and really fresh. I’ll go for a salmon nigiri and edamame, with green tea or water. Not much to ask for, right? It was just perfect here, though I’m not keen on paying extra for soy/wasabi, and so far — kicks Wasabi’s ass. Avoid Wasabi on Oxford Street at all costs. It’s a horrible place. Itsu gets a big thumbs up from me, with a fairly reasonable price tag to boot.

I’m a big lover of sushi but haven’t had any since coming to London. I figured since Itsu is right next to my uni, that’d be a good place to start :] The selection is pretty good. As sushi generally is, it’s a bit expensive. I got the Health & Happiness selection, which came with quite a bit of sushi, for £7.95. Everything was very nice and quite fresh tasting. I wish I hadn’t spent so much on it, but that’s what you get when you don’t just want one roll but a bit :]

My my my, this itsu is HUGE! Wow. The only thing is that it has a semi open kitchen/prep area, so you see what the staff gets up to… sometimes that is not the best thing. The veg dumpling(for a change from the salmon box, which is normally ok but rice is a tad hard and not the right kind of short grain; alsoI am not too sure about the salad dressing) soup is extremely wholesome and filling. With 6 yummy(but skin slightly too thick) veg dumplings and lots of udon, seeds and veg, this kept me going through work gym and I didn’t even feel like snacking whilse I prepared dinner. The only thing is I think they boiled the soup with the miso in it– unfortunately boiled miso imparts a slightly soured flavour. I did spend the majority of the litre of miso going through me wondering whether it was lemon or overheated miso, and I am going to go with overheate miso. The things I ponder during lunch time… oh and I read Twilight.

I used to go there for my work lunch when I really want something healthy and fresh ! This sushi company is very successful: products are fresh and good. Original somtimes Maybe sometimes just a bit too spicy but still fine. Rice cakes with chocolate are my favorites for dessert !! You will find them on the cashier :-) I go there maybe once or twice a month, as you need to plan a £6-£7 for lunch eat-in

Delicious high standard sushi plus other stuff I haven’t tried yet. My only problem is the strangely sullen and serious atmosphere in all Itsus I’ve been to. Diners frown and whisper, if they even talk at all. It’s bizarre. There’s also a slightly smug vibe about this place…‘this is where I come and this is what I eat and I’m cutting edge because of it’ in a pathetic sort of ‘Time Out 2004′ kind of way. The staff always look suicidal and that’s how I feel until I get back out onto the street again… but, as I said, the sushi is great and fresh and I’ll keep coming back for more. Four stars due to the heavy vibe, otherwise, five.

There a few of these fab sushi restaurants dotted around. The great thing is you can either eat in or take-away. I much prefer to sit down and enjoy but on the odd occasion I have had to grab a sushi pack and run! The miso soup is a must! I know it sounds quite boring but theirs is particularly good. I have tried a few different miso soups from various Japanese restaurants and canteens and even Prêt a Manger does a miso! However Itsu are generous with their tofu and seaweed! It is always busy, workmen, students, shoppers all passing through. The Noodles are a popular choice. However my favourite swings between the spicy crab and the health and happiness box! Always hard to choose! Great location, in the summer you can also sit outside and watch the busy streets of London as you enjoy your healthy meal!

I do love sushi and noodles and most importantly miso soup, so this is the place for me when I need a health kick on the go, and am in an area over-run with Maccie D’s and other such disgusting places. The miso soup here is amazing, as are some of the sushi choices. Go for the fish ones, they are a little more pricey but totally worth it. Vegetable sushi is boring. It is always pretty busy around lunch time so avoid peak hours.

I went here yesterday when I was in the area because I was starving and fancied some takeaway hot food. It was really disappointing though. As a lover of carbs this is just not the place for me. All of the food looked really dry and healthy. And pricey, it’s about £6 for a takeaway box of chicken. I got the only dish that looked flavorsome which was the chicken broth and it was so unfulfilling. I ended up having to go around the corner for a sandwich after just to fill up! I’m completely confused as to why it is always so busy there.
