The quality is not as good as it used to be and the more formal clothes are not that versatile as the overt branding means you cannot wear the shirts or jackets to work(which somewhat undermines there purpose). The pelican they stitch on is now dragging on brand as it makes the clothing look a bit ‘chav’ and something for school kids rather than young adults. Not helped that the execution of the logo is often done very badly, with very imprecise stitching. Only a mug pays full price at this store as there is always one form of promotion or another going on — like every bank holiday, and students get a percentage off too.

Okay, so I know you might associate Jack Wills with students wearing branded hoodies and young farmers wearing monogrammed sweaters and tweed, and I was pretty skeptical myself, but actually it’s worth a second look. In fact they stock a much broader range of nicely styled, well-made, quality clothing that doesn’t scream«Jack Wills», and which no one would ever guess came from here. The staff in all their stores are always chatty and engaging — whatever you happen to be buying they say«oh good choice, this is a really great [dress/jumper/blouse etc]» and then they ask what you’ve done with your day and what you have planned later. Maybe they’re just trying to distract you from how much is ringing up on the till, but they needn’t bother because by that point you’ve already determined to make a purchase. So they make a decent effort at coming across as genuine and like, maybe, they quite enjoy their job! I know it’s patter, but it’s pleasanter than a surly shop assistant taking your money, and it works for me!
