It’s a mixed bag with JEM. They are very expensive — and for some reason they always seem to find things that cost a fortune that my car needs fixing. I was quoted £750 to change an Alternator, when the AA man managed to find a replacement part and fixed it for free! Another garage that specialises in my old Lexus says they are total cowboys and a rip-off. I may be mistaken– but if you read the other review on here it looks suspiciously like it was written by someone who works there! JEM are convenient to where I live and their facilities are extremely high tech and sort of state of the art. If money isn’t a factor — then use them first. For the rest of us, they’re nice enough but overpriced and IMHO I always feel ripped off when they work on my car.

It’s not often that one can give a service garage a five star write-up, but JEM is an unusual hybrid English/Japanese business which fortunately manages to maintain Japanese standards of efficiency, courtesy and cleanliness. Located near a Sainsbury’s off the main road between Kilburn and the M1, the site comprises a yard full of used ‘grey-import’ Japanese cars and a large workshop and office. Unusually, there is a well-equipped waiting room on top of the office where you can have coffee and hot drinks, read the papers and watch your car being worked on in the spotless workshop below. JEM specialises in Japanese cars — mainly Toyotas and Lexus, but they will accept others. If you have a Toyota or Lexus, they are considerably cheaper and more efficient than the main dealers. The only drawback is that they are about three miles from the nearest Tube station — Hendon Central — but they will happily run you there or pick you up.
