What a letdown. We chose this hotel as I generally like Jury’s Inn, the price is reasonable, and the location fit the bill(one stop from Gatwick for an early flight). Check-in was okay. We saw the most cringeworthy Christmas party starting in the restaurant so we knew we’d have to go out for dinner and headed up to the room to drop bags and check things out. Up to the 8th floor we went, along a very long corridor, to our room. Our empty, barren room with a tiny double bed. The room was clearly meant for 1 person — even though our booking was for 2 — as there was only one set of towels in the bathroom. There was no where to sit, or work. The bed was hard as a rock and just a small double. The remote control didn’t work for the tv. The air heating/cooling randomly switched off repeatedly. The wifi was free, but painfully slow(a problem that hit home when our flight was cancelled for the next morning and we’re frantically trying to rebook online). We went out to eat and came back in and the Christmas party was in full swing. It was really, really loud — luckily we were high enough up to not hear it in our room(but we could still hear it in the corridor). After our night of no sleep, we went down for our breakfast. It was fine, and there was good variety. They did have waffles, well, waffle, and it was odd — it was cut up into little pieces and displayed on a slate tile. So there weren’t waffles, just a couple of cold waffle bits. Hmm. Just not up to par with other Jury’s Inns I’ve stayed in. Disappointed.

Check in here was fine, and considering the Christmas party taking place downstairs I was very glad that the staff took the care to put me on an upper floor well away from the lift shaft — because I swear we could hear the music in the lift all the way up on the seventh floor. But what let the hotel down was the sparsely decorated rooms. It just seemed like a quarter of the room was utterly empty — and the double bed seemed really small too. The thing is, it’s a hotel for business travellers or people heading down to Gatwick. So when you think of it as an airport hotel it could be worse.
