Excellent local pub. Gives the vibe of olde wordly without being too much up it’s own ass. Essentially, come here if you’d like a pint and some decent food, with a fab cross –section of interesting locals in between. Fish and chips are a very good choice, and I am ecstastic to report that the veggie burger tastes like it was made locally and is tasty. Chips here are damn crispy and lickalicious! They have a good beer choice, with lagers, ales, and stout. Wines are also available. If you want something poncier, head over to Westfield. If you want something well priced and local, come here.

Good value pub grub, lots of seating. Very nice helpful staff and 4 minutes walk to Stratford Picture House.

There’s only one nice pub in Stratford and, ladies and gents, this is it. By nice I mean it’s got a light, airy, welcoming feel from the outside in, is traditionally olde worlde without being ‘old man’, and is somewhere you might take your mum for lunch. The wood-panelled main bar never seems to be too crowded, whilst the steps to the left of the bar lead to a much larger seating area at the back. Affectionately known as King Eddie’s, it’s a trusted choice for a weekend lunch date with my housemate, mainly because 1) it’s 7mins walk from our flat, 2) it’s not Westfield(trust me, Westfield-fatigue becomes a thing when it’s on your doorstep), and 3) the beer and cider line-up is pretty good! They also do a mean fish and chips, with wonderfully fat chunky chips and a very generously sized fish that always leaves me feeling stuffed as I waddle out the door afterwards. The food menu is quite compact but should have enough variety to please most appetites, and the options change with the season. Service is on the slow side, though the whole place seemed to be run by one guy on his own the last time we went which may explain that! So expect a laidback vibe but it’s worth a visit if you’re looking for an alternative meet-up spot to Westfield in the area. Especially so in summer when they open the front windows and spill out onto the outdoor tables. Also in case anyone from the pub reads this — we LOVED the live jazz trio you used to have in on a Sunday afternoon — please bring them back! :)

I absolutely love this pub! I have been going there for almost 15 years and I have a good time every time. Really good beer, good food and a great atmosphere. The Eddie is a traditional pub, very cosy and welcoming with a nice little beer garden for when the weather is a bit warmer. If you are in Stratford I highly recommend giving the Eddie a go.

Stratford’s finest pub no question about it. Has a great selection of ales and seasonal, delicious food. At first it seems a bit expensive as the chips were a minimum of £5 but once the huge plate arrives you realise it’s worth it. It has that specific old time appeal with a matching charming atmosphere. Combine that with the friendly, attending staff and excellent service and you get King Edward VII.

Very charming and cosy little place. The food was delicious and served right on time. I really don’t understand all the negative comments. Our waiter was very attentive and worked really efficiently. I left the place totally satisfied and even plan on coming back here in the future.

My husband and I were looking for a quick bite to eat after running some errands at the Westfield the other weekend. In the mood for pub food, we had checked out a couple of other pubs in the area without success, but when we walked into King Eddie’s we knew we were in the right place. Lovely décor and atmosphere, complete with a fireplace and low ceilings. It didn’t end up being a quick bite, but it was a great meal and we enjoyed taking our time. It was a Sunday, so we expected to find a roast only menu, but to our delight they had a full menu going. And what a menu it was… Very exciting while still keeping with pub food. We had the duck pâté to start — it was a very generous portion, served with onion jam and brioche… amazing! I then had the venison sausages and mash — another great dish. Great flavors in the sausages, great mash and the jus was spectacular. My husband had the fish and chips, which he liked, but he liked mine better. Next time, I’ll try something different, but only because there were so many things on the menu that looked interesting, that I quite want to try them all. One thing to note, they have a £10 minimum for card purchases, something we noticed when we went for our second round of beer. No big deal, we’ll just bring more cash next time. And there will definitely be a next time!

I had a bad experince too. The waiter forgot about me as a whole. I was waiting for an hour and at the end he was surprised as he thought I just came in.

This is such a lovely cosy place. Low ceilinged in the main bar, but with a surprising amount of space round the back. We stayed longer than we intended, because we liked the place so much. Some decent beers, not obvious choices either. Had some Otter Ale and also Eddie’s Best from Nethergate. Used to be the King of Prussia, way back, but was changed for patriotic reasons.

The best pub for a long way around. A very nice traditional building with friendly staff and good service. Superb selection of ales and a better than usual wine menu as well. They also do some very nice, traditionally themed british pub food. Thoroughly recommended.

From the front it doesn’t look like much, but inside the ‘Eddie’ as its known has friendly staff, a good selection of reasonably priced drinks, and 3 different rooms where you can make yourself comfortable for the evening, as well as a cosy outdoor area at the back. The food menu has a fair selection of good quality choices, and there are a selection of real ales on offer. Monthly wine tasting events are available, and the function room at the back can be reserved for private events. It does get busy, especially on a friday after work, but its well worth a visit as its one of the nicest drinking establishments in Stratford.

Lovely pub that’s always busy throughout the week, probably because it’s the best one in Stratford. The King’s Head offers a good range of beers and really good pub food, with the likes of fish and chips, sausage and mash and steak on the menu. Main meals cost around a tenner and are highly recommended. This pub seems to attract couples and the post work crowd and, as already mentioned on here, is a refreshing change from the other bars in Stratford as there’s not likely to be a fight here!

Yeah this one’s amazingly traditional and well-preserved, given its location in the heart of grimy Stratford, just opposite that grim shopping centre. We wandered in, bout half 9, to find it jostling. Constantly being moved, so that waitresses and waiters could pass with steaming hot plates of what looked like delicious British pub grub. Good sign. Again, they got real ales, which always sets a good pub away for me. Low ceilings, so you know that this is OLD. And little touches like incredible old tiling on the exit corridor: the front bar was rammed so we left for the back room which was warm, very well presented and again, loud with festive spirits and cheer. We only stayed for a couple, but I was really impressed that such a good pub with such commendable character could nestle so unassumingly in a location which doesn’t seem to lend itself to pubs of this stature. I was pleasantly reminded otherwise…

Beautiful Olde World place with low ceilings in the front bar, a restaurant area up some stairs, also has a back bar which is cosy in a different way than the front one. The toilets are small poor and shoddy and often smelly, this place is not for the disabled, as it has steps and no disabled toilets. The beer can be very good here or off or poor, it the gamble you take. Having said all that I do like having a pint here, well worth a visit.

The King ‘Eddie’ as it’s traditionally called is located in the heart of Stratford near both the shopping centre and the church. Like its name sake King Edward VII, who brought the name Saxe-Coburg-Gotha(later changed to Windsor) to the UK, the King ‘Eddie’ also brings something new: class and lots of it. Decked out in traditional pub décor with lots of wood and quirky little pictures to keep you occupied the ‘Eddie’ boasts an excellent range of quality aloes, spirits and lagers all reasonably priced. To boot they also do food, not your standard gastro-pub muck mind you, this is genuine high-quality produce from their highly acclaimed restaurant. Unfortunately this quality is reflected in the prices so not necessarily the best place for a quick bite. Live music and a quiz also feature weekly, the staff are nice enough and the locals are friendly, varied and interesting. What makes the ‘Eddie’ really stand out however is that in an area of pretty mediocre public houses it reminds of what a good real pub can be.

A really nice place very small public bar, 30 people and its packed. very old fashioned in appearance, but cosy, a fairly mixed crowd, After one pint of Bombardied, which was good, I decided to try the salon bar only because there are so few pubs that have a salon these days, and this was for me a spot at the counter, and a chance to try a pint of sussex best, and for some unknown reason the barman asked me if I would like to sample Eddies beer brewed by Nethergate, This sample was half pint, it was good and this barman went on to explain its brewed just for this pub, and thats there permanantly, but the other two ales are changed every 2 another visit this bar were very cumfy looking sofa, s and the toilet were very clean, theres also a tidy area outback for smokers, and the only thing I left not to sure about was the food menu, it sounded fairly expensive, but then no one was eating so I had no chance to see what was available,

A great little pub this and, in my view, the only decent pub in Stratford, given that the rest seem to be completely full of drunks and chavs… Anyway, there’s a very authentic oldie-worldie feel to the place, a good range of beer and some lovely food with seating on an upper level at the rear and they also have open-mic nights, folk nights and the like. If you’re meeting friends in the area then this is definitely the watering hole to choose… trust me! They even have their own website —
