My daughter is studying acting in London at Shakespeare’s Globe theatre. Alas, we were going to miss celebrating her milestone 21st birthday. Thanks to Unilocal,I found the branch of Konditor and Cook bakery closest to the theatre. The entire staff was very helpful over the telephone and via email as well as live chat. They delivered an elaborately decorated Curly-Whirly cake to the Globe right on time. My daughter and the other members of her troupe all agreed it was one of the best tasting cakes they’d experienced I am looking forward to visiting the store next month when we visit our daughter in London. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because it was somewhat pricey with dollars vs. pounds. I would recommend this bakery for any American who has someone overseas in London and needs a cake for a special occasion.

My girlfriend brought home takeaway brownies from here today and I. am. in. love. We got four flavors: vanilla bean cheesecake, boston brownie, gluten free dark chocolate and the best one, salted caramel. There was something seriously religious about that brownie. Or rather, there is – because we haven’t finished it. We’re shaving off little bits with a fork so it never has to end. When it does, it’ll be a sad day.

Visited this tiny shop with my baby in a stroller. The entrance was too small for the stroller to pass, so the friendly waitress opened both doors for me. She helped me pick out 2 delicious cakes, almond st clements and a rhubarb crumble. Then a guy walks out yelling at the waitress to close the door! I told him it’s because of me that the waitress opened the door, he barely glanced at me and bark another order at the poor waitress. I can only hope he is only the manager and not the owner since he really doesn’t seem to care about the customer. Yelling at their employee in front of customer speaks very badly about the business.

The wonderful cakes of Konditor and Cook was part of my morning walk to work. I use to often stop and stare at the daily offerings in the storefront lustfully — The prices use to be on the luxury end of things for a young intern. Interestingly, my first try of Konditor was thanks to a contractor that bought me a cake as a ‘I’m sorry I insulted you’ offering. I’m sure it was because it was a great cake and not because it was a peace offering but it was up there as one of the best cakes ever! Cakes are pricey but it’s flavours won’t disappoint.

It’s a great cake shop, but that’s pretty much about all it is. Coffee is pretty average, and it’s all takeaway. Not what I was expecting for a coffee & tea shop really. Service was ok, and the cakes are great!

One of the places which are a must if you’re in the area. There’s something for everyone inside sweet or salty treats and all kinds of coffee drinks. I also liked the high hygiene in the restrooms which is always important.

We happened to be in the neighborhood… and had it not been for Mr. Snarky leading me away from the goodness of the Real Food Market to Konditor and Cook, I may have missed out on the brownies. The store front is wonderful and enough to make you press your face against the window and drool. I resisted that urge, but did take a cheeky picture. The store itself is quite small, with no real place to sit. In the front room there are the sweets and cakes, in the next room, the savouries. It was busy so I was finding it a bit claustrophobic and also worried about knocking cakes and brownies off the shelves in the window. They have a deal on brownies… 3 for 5 quid. Mr. Snarky convinced me we should get three, two Curly Wurly Brownies and one classic. I also spied some other goodies and decided on a Passion Fruit Meringue Tartlet. He spied a Raspberry Meringue. I popped outside while he paid because I just couldn’t cope. When Mr. Snarky looked at the receipt, he noticed that the lady had charged him the wrong price… for the wrong item. We pulled out the box and discovered a Raspberry Tartlet instead of the Raspberry Meringue. No wonder she had asked us if she could put everything in one small box. Mr. Snarky went back inside to clear things up. Eventually we ended up in the shadow of the London Eye, sprawled out on the grass, and eating our sweets. The Passion Fruit Meringue Tartlet was lovely… but extremely sweet. The Raspberry Meringue that we thought was filled inside with some kind of raspberry goo… was really just a huge puff of Meringue with Raspberries folded in. Mr. Snarky had to give up halfway through because it was just too much and too sweet. We did split a Curly Wurly and saved the rest of the brownies for later. I must admit when Mr. Snarky said Curly Wurly Brownie, I imagined a Brownie made with the Cadbury Curly Wurly candy(one of my favourites). However, it turns out that it is a cream cheese brownie. If the brownie had been less than spectacular, I would have been disappointed, but this was great, regardless how I had interpreted Curly Wurly. The brownie(including the classic which was split for Breakfast on the day I departed) was the right consistency of moist, chewy, but still a bit cakey. Often I find that people get that consistency wrong and end up either more like cake or more like fudge… this was the balance! I would love to go back and try their cakes as they looked heavenly. Even took one of their pamphlets on cake decorating classes… don’t know if I will get the chance, but would love to do it!

Staff was friendly. Food was friendly. Definitely coming back here again. There are multiple chains. The time I came here I just grabbed three treats recommended by the worker. One was this sort of chocolate chili square treat. The other was a ginger cookie(delicious to my surprise). Lastly I got the almond fruit tart(the best out of the three). These treats compliment well with a coffee so… order up!

A boutique lunch alternative in this god forsaken corner of Southwark. Never one to advocate mixing sweet and savory, I must admit that their sweet potato quiche was quite delightful. Can’t wait to see what else they dish out.

It was a sad day when our office birthday policy changed(damn you economic downturn) which meant that we no longer got Konditor and Cook cake for every department birthday. A home-made cake can rarely stand up to the marvellous K&C. Yes, their cakes are expensive, but my word they are worth it. Particular favourites of mine are the Curly Wurly and Carrot Cakes — choosing between the two is the only unpleasant part of a trip to the shop. Order ahead and they can do all manner of icing requests, and their cakes are always beautiful. The icing is so rich, sweet and delicious that my teeth ache just thinking about it. They have all manner of smaller offerings as well, sweet and savoury(and, if you’re picking up a cake in the afternoon, I’ve sometimes found success negotiating an extra little quiche being thrown in for free), but this place will always be a cake place for me. And it’s difficult to think of a better one.

As a nearby worker, I’m in this place more than I’m in own flat. Every morning I take a peep at the menu on my way to work, and quite often rationalize that my packed lunch if perfectly fine for dinner as I scroll through the options of butternut squash and sage soup with a potato and rosemary roll or seranno ham and pineapple pizza. Yes, there is no place to sit, but I’m not sure I would want other people hearing my foodgasm anyway. Treats abound, and my personal favourtie is their pumpkin pie only on offer in November. The take-away coffee is heavenly as well and they use Union coffee. If you think you might be a frequent buyer, request a coffee card for great deals on coffee and pastries.

I love all of the Konditor & Cook shops. They make the best brownies in London. FACT. And they’re great for picking up a treat or two with which to treat your colleagues. Everything I’ve ever purchased from a K&C has been fantastic, from the Curly Wurly cakes to the cute magic cakes to the hot chocolate… They’re not incredibly cheap, but neither are they incredibly expensive. And once you’ve taken a bite out of their Boston Brownies(or their Curly Wurly brownies which come a close second), you will be hooked.

Konditor and Cook, how I miss you! All these years after my month on Stamford Street, I dream about the first time I walked past your purple façade and doubled back in curiosity. It’s true. It’s impossible to get in here after work or first thing in the morning. But if you can get in, it’s worth the wait. The sweets are remarkable. All of them. I sampled widely and often while staying in a room that looked out on Cornwall. Their lunches were my favorite find: vichyssoise, cheesy breads, Irish Cheddar and chutney on chewy wheat bread… my mouth waters at the memory. I wake up craving the lemon moons, the biscotti, the magic cakes, and the orange leaves. And the savory shortbreads — parmesan and rosemary. And the Boston Brownie with cranberries.

GER: Das ist der Himmel jeder Zuckerschnute — so wie ich! Kuchen, Bisquits, Tartes, Tartines, so weit das Auge reicht! Alles mit Liebe und ausgewählten Zutaten und noch per Hand verarbeitet! Exquisit! *** ENG: This is sugar heaven! I love sweets and found my paradise! If I walk along Cornwall Road to go to NT or the wharf I cannot pass by, I tried it several times but this shop is a magnet. Cakes, tartes, tartines is all you can see. Everything hand made with love and high quality products. Delicious!

You’re getting 5 stars on the brownie alone. Amazing! It’s true though, you can’t really stay in and enjoy the treats, but it’s a nice place to stop for something on the way back to the office if you work in the area or grab a snack and take it to the southbank and walk around and make the tourists jealous.

Konditor how I love you :) Tucked away from the hussle and bussle of Waterloo station you find on the corner of a cute road … Konditor and Cook. Unfortunately this Konditor and Cook has nowhere to sit down as it is so small, but really, the cakes are so good that you really need to enjoy them in the luxury of a bean bag or at the park. I highly recommend the curly whirly cake, the carrot and pineapple, the boston brownie and a gingerbread … that’s just for starters =D If you fancy something savoury they do have a hot selection and sandwiches at lunch time, they also do museli for breakfast, the food is really nice but of course needs to be accompanied by something sweet =) You can buy a whole cake if you wish or just a slice and they also sell coffee and cute little cakes to give as gifts. Do get here early at lunchtime as there is always a queue. Please note: if you have not been here before, you may become addicted. I am not to be held responsible for any weight gain: P
