I got to taste Koshari at Borough Market. Koshari includes lentils, lentils, rice, vermicelli, spicy tomato sauce, chickpeas, and caramelized onions. It’s a delicious combination and definitely one of the cheapest and fastest options if you’re looking for a meal at Borough Market. It was fulfilling, unique, and light all at the same time. I definitely recommend checking it out!

I know nothing about Egyptian food, but I greatly enjoyed my small bowl — nice flavor combination, filling and price seemed reasonable for the quality. Definitely a nice change of pace. The gentleman behind the counter was nice and explained what was on offer.

I’ve been here twice and the current star-rating represents the average of the two visits. Both times were close to closing. The first time, all of the ingredients in the koshari bowl were room temperature /cold. Not worthwhile at all! The second time, got a nice hot bowl, with the«Mad» hot tomato sauce(if you like spice, it’s nice, though would even prefer it spicier). Got the deal with a salad and drink(and regular size koshari bowl) — very filling, very tasty, very healthy. Tabouleh salad perfectly balanced out the koshari pulses, grains, beans and tomato sauce. Loved the pear juice — they offer some really nice flavors. Also got the dessert with apricot purée/compot, pistachio, rose(?), and creamy goodness. Overall a really good deal. Just have to catch it on the right night — for now, strikes me as inconsistent, at least towards closing time.

Spicy, flavorful, delicious quick bite. Returned twice while in town and did not regret it.

I absolutely love this pure carb Egyptian dish. When we lived in Egypt, this was the only local dish that we truly loved(other than fattah) as the chilli sauce is served on the side and we could up the heat quotient as much as we liked. While it’s pretty easy to make at home, it’s a bit time consuming with the different pastas, lentils, pastes and fried onions that need to be prepared, so it’s not something I cook frequently. Egyptian friends in London introduced us to this place and we keep going back when we want a carby overload. Koshari street offers a selection of chilli sauces with their kosharis and we obviously favour the king chilli — the spiciest one. Other than koshari, they just have a dessert or 2 and drinks in the menu. It works well as a takeaway and can be eaten a day later too. I always pick up an extra large container of the fried onions(they charge for it), but it saves me so much time when cooking biryanis and other Mughlai food. The onions keep in the fridge for a couple of weeks.

Relatively inexpensive, healthy and tasty — all near covent garden? Its kind of a shocker that this place even exists — I’m quite happy to have it relatively near my office. Highly recommend getting a rice pudding at one point or another as well. Its kind of a ‘gelatin’ texture vs. rice pudding that’s from Greece or other countries that’s more textured. Both are good — just different. What I really like is the rose water — very tasty. One caveat — the ‘mad’ sauce — its best suited to small children recovering from surgery. Seriously I should be careful because everyone has their own heat tolerance but I would say the flavour is great, the spice level is paltry. Which is fine — hey they’re in covent garden, right?

Egyptian street food. Great option for a healthy meal that is filling and cheap. Might be better as takeaway but you can sit at the small bar. I did Mad hot tomato sauce and I love really hot food. It was VERY spicy. Next time I’d like half mad and half hot. Salad and hummus options are good too. Makes me realize that we should try making Egyptian food at home.

Came here because of a Groupon, and it was well worth it! It is very simple to order because you get the base — mixture of noodles, legumes, and other — then you add the sauce, and finally toppings such as fried onions and nuts. I got everything on it with a mild sauce, and the large definitely filled me up for dinner. The place is small though, but food is great!

Koshari Street offers a cheap, quick, tasty option for Egyptian street food. The koshari is a unique mix of textures and flavors: mixed grains and noodles topped with chickpeas, fried onions, and zesty tomato sauce with your choice of spiciness. Really delicious, and at a fantastic price of £3.50 for a ‘small,’ I think I will be returning to St. Martin’s Lane again!

«Mega-filling, mega-tasty, mega-cheap»(TimeOut) and I agree! Okay, maybe not mega-cheap given that I’m a student but close enough. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a simple, tasty, healthy yet filling meal.

I discovered Koshari at the Borough market and was taken back with their design and colours and thought it was really interesting and yet I did not try it for a long time. When showing some visitors to London Borough market we received a sample from Koshari and we were hooked. It is a great option if you are looking for something low in calories but filling and cheap. The store in Covent Garden is very small with limited seating but it is easy to eat on the go if there is no space. Follow them on twitter if you want to know where they are situated as they do have stalls all over London.

Was in Central London, looking for a ‘cheap, healthy and delicious lunch’ so googled it, naturally. First on the list was Koshari Street and I am oh so happy it was! Reading about it online seemed like quite a strange mix, lentils, macaroni, chickpeas, a tomato sauce and crispy onions, who would’ve thought it would be such a winning combo! Very impressed at a price of £3.50 for lunch, I’ll be telling everyone about this fantastic place!

I have the brilliant Unilocaler Jane G to thank for introducing me to Koshari street, and it is fast becoming one of my favourite places for a quick bite in central. The food is so filling but healthy and very reasonably priced, but above all it is really tasty. I usually have a medium Koshari with the mild sauce, as I really like the flavour. I guess it depends on your taste as to which sauce to go for but the staff have always been super lovely and helpful when I have been there and so I would recommend tasting the sauces if you haven’t been before to help make your selection, I have tried them all but think the hottest one would be a bit much for me on a whole tub. It is a shame that there isn’t more seating but they do well with the space that they have and usually have tap water and cups ready for anyone who manages to get a seat– which is a lovely touch. The description of a Koshari doesn’t really do it justice and so it is really something that you need to taste– I don’t know how they manage to make pasta, chick peas and lentils with tomato sauce taste so good — and the onions just bring all the flavours together. So in summary avoid if you are off carbs– but if you want a hearty, tasty carb filled feast then this is the place to go.

Five stars for being absolute stars at what they do. My parents, husband, and I discovered these guys at their stand in Borough Market, giving out samples of their special dish, koshari. We weren’t sure what to expect since we couldn’t really tell what was in it, but the tiny samples were sure packed with a lot of flavour and we all ended up getting a serving each! I’ve since been back to their store on St Martins Lane several times now and have loved it every time. Their koshari is a wonderful mix of flavours and always fresh. I love the spicy sauce, but the mild sauce is still delicious if you’re not one for spicy food. As for size, the regular is enough to fill you for hours, very budget-friendly, AND healthy! What a package. I also love how they think carefully about where they source their ingredients. Check out their website about it and GOTRYIT!

Simple and delicious. Unfussy menu that doesn’t give much choice beyond level of spice. Combination of flavours is truly delicious and excellent value. Provided a much needed fuelling stop between our errands in Central London. A different approach to fast food which is refreshing in the sense that the emphasis is very much on flavour as opposed to quantity.

On our first day in London, we were looking for something unique to eat for lunch. Something that we couldn’t find back home in Austin. Wandering down St Martin’s Lane, we stumbled on Koshari Street. Egyptian Street Food? Sign up me! The little koshari bowls are goodness in a cup. Filling, nourishing, and really damn tasty. If you’re into spice, order the extra spicy sauce.

During Arab Spring, kushary was the food of the revolution. It’s a typical Cairene dish with lentils, chickpeas, and noodles, topped with zesty tomato sauce and fried onions. It just absolutely hits the spot when you’re craving something hearty and carbo-loaded. Since it’s quick — the kushary is ready-made and just needs toppings — it’s perfect for a snack before the theatre, and reasonably priced for how much food you’re getting. While it doesn’t have the atmosphere of Kushary Tahrir, it certainly has the taste.

Surely this is the next food trend to explode across the capital? I mean, the food is ridiculously tasty. I won’t go into the actual ingredients as such because other Unilocalers have done a good job, but I would like to suggest you carefully consider the strength of sauce you run with. The difference between the Hot and the Mad(yes, really) could be a game changer. Tread carefully. All of the hot food is vegan. Some desserts and the wraps are not. The servers are super friendly and the shop is in such a handy location. You can place you order online for pick up or delivery. Koshari Street for President of the food universe!

You can’t ever judge a book by its cover but when I walked by this small open shop on St. Martin’s lane — I couldn’t help but think that this place will have healthy options. I think most people walk in looking a bit confused and wondering what this place is about so the girl at the counter asked straight away if I wanted to try a sample and explained all of the ingredients that go into it. It was the first time I’ve had koshari which is a mix of chickpeas, pasta and other wholesome good stuff that is topped with a tomato based sauce with a spice kick of your choosing and topped off with fried onions. It is surprisingly really tasty and really like that it’s quite healthy. I’ve been trying to cut back on my meat intake so this was a great option for a hearty and filling meal.

The food here is very tasty. I had the koshari meal and was really impressed. I had never had Egyptian food before and loved it. This place is great for a lunchtime or a quick bite to eat on an evening. Unfortunately they don’t have much seating inside so wouldn’t be ideal for a large group looking to eat in but if the weather is nice then you can get takeaway and sit in nearby Trafalgar Square. Would definitely recommend this place.
