Rather narrow hours for this place. I think they pack it in around 3 or 4 pm. Don’t expect options near days end. They pretty much cater to the workers around Petticoat Lane. The salt beef, despite the name, isn’t very salty. It’s basically a very thick cut corned beef or smoked meat. You can have it on a bagel, bun, or rye, subject to availability. As a Montréal Smoked Meat whore, I wanted it on rye but the rye was not available. As a Montréal Bagel whore, I knew no bagel would suffice so I got it on the roll/bun. Anyway, take it with mustard and a sliced gherkin pickle. Good eating.

This Jewish bakery has been open since the building was erected and quite possibly long before. Their roles are nothing to speak of but colleagues come here for bread pudding and cakes. Me, I’m here for the salt beef bagels. It’s not a 24 hour place like its brethren in Brick Lane and the salt beef isn’t ready until around lunchtime. A salt beef bagel with gherkin, mustard and for some reason, mayonaise will set you back a very wallet friendly £3.80. The salt beef is plentiful and superb, the bagel itself, is perhaps not in the same league as the Brick Lane places, but I think the beef is a better which more than makes up for it. If you peckish around Petticoat Lane I highly recommend you pop in here and grab some bagelly loveliness.
