Arrived at Brick Lane on a sunny Saturday afternoon absolutely famished. La Piadina was the only food truck which did not have a queue and by that, I mean, La Piadina literally had no people standing in front of it — no one waiting for food, no one waiting to order, and no one looking at the menu. Due to the fact that my stomach was eating itself, I made the risky decision to go against the crowd and order food from La Piadina. It was a risk worth taking — at worst, I’d eat a couple of bites to tide my hunger and hop in another queue and at best, I’d be delighted with my meal and absolutely stuffed. I stepped up to the food truck and noted the display which included a pizza that had been sitting out on display all day. It looked terrible and I have since concluded that it is this display that likely deterred customers away. I ordered the La Diavola which I thought was going to come out looking like a pizza(but more fresh than the one on display) but to my surprise, it came out looking like a quesadilla. Also to my surprise was that it did not have any pizza sauce — just cheese and spicy salami. I handed over a £5 note and found an empty picnic table and took a bit. It was delicious but I should warn that the spicy salami was incredibly spicy. I was not expecting the level of spice that imploded in my mouth. I’ve never consumed such spicy salami in my life and consequently had heartburn for the next 24 hours. The cheese was tasty and gooey and, when melted, acted like a sauce, making the«Italian quesadilla» super juicy which made me happy because I was highly concerned that due to the lack of sauce, it was going to be like eating cardboard. Overall, great service and great product for only £5!
