Café East and Mama Phở were closed so we were left wandering the land of dismal food options. We found Le Gia on a small corner near Deptford Bridge, and upon walking in, wondered if we should get takeaway. It’s hard to explain the vibe, it’s a large spacious room with blue lighting, filled with canteen tables. Nevertheless we decided to stay and put up with the East Asian elevator music. We ordered the beef phở, tofu summer rolls, pork summer rolls, and grilled chicken vermicilli. Everything was okay, similar to what you would get at the average Vietnamese setup on Kingsland road. We were literally the only 2 people there in a hall fit for 80, but it was nice getting out of the house for a 25 quid meal.

Maybe it’s the nighttime karaōke that is this restaurant’s raison-d’être, it’s certainly not the food, which is bland and dumbed down in the worst way.

The place is definitely good but the type of food is just not in my taste. The decorations and service were good so I am sure that anyone who’d like Vietnamese food would appreciate the restaurant.

Great food. Décor is a strange combination of canteen meets glitzy hotel bar with 80s drapes. .. but food is what matters and here you’ll not be disappointed.

I like Deptford, i suspect this may be a reaction to the willingness of some to speak of it in disparaging terms. So if you do find yourself seeking food in the area you should know that this place can be seen from the DLR station. I will concede that the décor is something weird. Very white and stark in the style of a school canteen trying to evoke days of Empire? Also it would o0nly take a few lighting alterations to look like this scene from Buck Rodger Video link: Okay, maybe they’d have to push the chairs back too, but I think it should be encouraged. Now I’m no expert on Vietnamese food, the menu seemed very extensive, and they also appeared to be adding to it all the time. Being no stranger to restaurant roulette my company and I ordered –something I can pronounce –something that I can’t imagine –something with chicken –a safety dish An approach which means you can challenge yourself, as well as have enough to eat. The food was great, the portions were pretty surprising, we had to send back one of our starters, Pork Hash, unfinished as it was just too much, both starters were really substantial. Luckily we were very hungry. Sadly I didn’t take proper notice of the names of the other dishes. I have to say, they were delicious, fresh, filling, flavoursome. I deeply regretted my determination to make a substantial dent in the starters, as my main meal was wonderful, but my frail human capacity was not enough. There remained so much unexplored, it definitely got my excited about Vietnamese food. They also do takeout, which I’d definitely make use of if I lived nearer

The past few days I have been cat-sitting in Deptford. The cat’s owner and her feline creatures recommended Le Gia, which was only 5 minutes walk away from Deptford Bridge DLR station. One evening I was in no mood to cook, I walked to Le Gia to order takeaway. The décor looks seriously oddit’s a strange marriage of continental palace drape cream-coloured curtains, tacky chairs and paper table cloths. The restaurant looks vast and empty, with a TV screen hung on the wall showing images of the restaurant interiors, as if diners need to be reminded more of its hideous décor. However, the Vietnamese dishes were nothing like its surroundingsI ordered Nem Nuong Cuon Banh Trang(Vietnamese grilled pork rolls on a bed of vegetables, noodles and fried rice paper, rolled up in soft rice paper) for starters and Bun Kho Dac Biet(Special vermicelli with grilled pork, grilled pork rolls, spring rolls and pork hash, served with fresh vegetables and sauce), both were delicious. I will cat-sit again in March, and will certainly visit Le Gia again.

Went here just after it opened. The interior is cheap and made me feel a bit sad that it had once been a grand old pub building. Food was ok. Huge portions, but I left feeling thirsty from the MSG. Waiters were a little bit inexperienced. Probably wouldn’t eat there again as I really didn’t like the ambiance, but may order a takeway to give the food a second go.

Have been here about 5 times since it’s opening about 2 months ago now and always had good experiences. Stumbled across this gem when i saw the place being refurbished. When i first walked into Le Gia restaurant, i was thinking to myself that i might have stepped into a kind of high class establishment, because of the design and look of the place. however, the staff greeted me in what has to be, the friendliest way i could have hoped for. The food there was excellent, i had the H Tieu Bò Kho(Beef stew soup with noodles)(sorry, i copied the vietnamese wording from another website: P) and it was very flavoursome. My friend had the Phở Tai(Standard beef broth with noodles) and i tried some; i felt that it was on par with some of the best ones around(café east), but i give the edge to Le Gia, just for the friendly, comfortable environment alone(plus, i think the girl manager is cute hehe) i drive alot aswell and there’s a car park right behind the restaurant(pay & display, one of the cheapest i seen in London: D), so it was very convenient for me. All in all, a big two thumbs up(three, if i had another one: D)!!! :D
