On our first visit we just intented to have a cold drink & snack during our long day of walking/sightseeing. But the meals being delivered to other tables looked so good we ended up ordering full meals and they were delicious! So good that we came back a second night during our 3 night stay in London. The ingredients were fresh & nicely prepared, the service was good, the restaurant was clean & the beer was cold… a great combination.

First night in London and after venturing in and out of several pubs this ended up being the only place that was willing to serve food a little over 7PM on a Sunday night. Definitely a plus for this place as they were kind enough to open up the kitchen for us. Food is good as it stands out from other pubs as they serve thai dishes along with some standard fair. So of course you have to get the thai dishes. They are solid and when they say spicy, they actually mean spicy. I really respect that, since many a place just don’t add the right amount of kick. So be warned as the spicy noodle is spicy. Bartender is a chill dude. Offered up some good recommendations and of course you get the ales. Pretty cool spot all in all.

The Lemon tree is a great little back street boozer with the unexpected bonus of a first class and affordable Thai restaurant inside. The pub is small, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in atmosphere, cosiness and ale. There is a selection of immaculately kept beers available, including my current favourite, Hobgoblin, which considering the Central London location is very reasonably priced at around £3.50. Upstairs is an intimate dining area serving some of the tastiest and most authentic Thai food I’ve tried in eons. The menu is a bit more adventurous than the norm, and for now I am mostly eating Beef Pad Krapow, a spicy little number with beef, peppers and noodles. ‘Aroy’ as they say in Bangkok. This would make a great venue for a first date: a very reasonably priced and intimate restaurant upstairs, and, should things go belly-up, the consolation of some great ales to be had downstairs.

This pub cannot compare to the legendary Harp, just round the corner, but is pretty decent and a potential option if the CAMRA’s Greater London Pub of the year is too busy Or if you are hungry perhaps, because the chinese food at this pub smelt delicious and the upstairs room is a very cosy place to enjoy it. There were a couple of real ales on, Deuchars and Bombardier. The latter was pretty good.

The Lemon Tree has has just been redecorated or possibly re-interpreted. The interior is now all grey, I think the idea was cool, but the result is cold. The pictures on the walls are phenominally cheesey new romatic portrait screen prints. The Thai food here is good and very inexpensive. So in summary it should get four stars for the price-taste combination but two stars for the lamentable interior.

We discovered this little treasure while visiting my friend who lives two doors down from this establishment. I must admit we were quite bummed that we didn’t stumble in sooner. It was our last night in London when decided to grab one more beverage or two before calling it a night. The bartender that was looking after the bar while his friends were away was sooo friendly and funny. He really made our last night memorable! He made solid recommendations as for beverages to try, places to explore and restaurants to visit. Too bad we didn’t stop in sooner.

Another hidden gem in the back streets of London. I visit a fair few pubs and many don’t even validate for a review as they just aren’t special enough. What sets this place apart is the food the sell. Serving a selection of Thai dishes for about £5 it’s a top spot for lunch in the area. It’s an old theatre pub so you see old skool posters all over the walls in the loos and up the stairs. If you do go in at lunch it does get busy but head up the stairs to the other seating area, it’s a little cramped but totally worth it for the food. I can’t really comment on it as a general boozer as I don’t think I’d come here for drinks but it does seem to pull in a couple of the old boys from around, so it’s doing something right!

This tiny pub, is totally cute! Tucked away, down a side street off Covent Garden, it is free from tourists and can be a nice hide away from London. The Lemon Tree is the time of pub you’d expect to find is southern Ireland, with bright Yellow interior and more beers than places to sit, it has that homely nonsense, which is a real charmer. I recommend you to only go with one of two friends, as their isn’t much space! If you go ask for the lovely landlady called Wendy, who will be able too suggest some great beers!

This is a perfectly decent boozer on the outskirts of Covent Garden. It can get quite crowded when there’s football on(they have some TVs) as the downstairs area is quite compact. But the reason for the 4-star rating is more to do with the brilliant Thai food that’s served. It’s quite basic but very affordable and authentic. You can eat downstairs, but it wouldn’t be too comfortable. Better head upstairs where there’s a great little area adorned with posters of really bad films. But they do table service up there. I would particularly recommend the Red Curry. It can be pretty spicy but there’s a great selection of beers(including some guest ales) to wash it down with.
