L’Express has a branch in Mayfair that I have been to a few times. I didn’t realise this was the same people because the feel of this place is very different. The staff are keener and the salad area is constantly being refilled and cleaned. It’s six pounds for a huge salad, or around a fiver for one that is probably big enough for most people. The quality of the ingredients is better than average, probably as good as you’ll get while still having reasonably sized portions and prices. There is hot food too, which looks good, better than the Mayfair branch again. The only vegetarian thing I saw was a «quiche» which did have me tempted to go for the hot food(you can have salad with that too). The other meat-based things looked great. It’s worth remembering that the Sainsbury’s on the corner does a surprisingly good salad too for four pounds, including boiled eggs and lots of delicious things that are likely quite unhealthy. I’ve been here twice in a week though, that says quite a lot.

This place is almost always busy… but even when there is a queue, it doesn’t take long to grab yourself a yummy meal. Ignore the sandwich and potato options, and choose between the hot food and the salad bar(or both!) — For hot food, grab a styrofoam box, fill it up with whatever you fancy — For salad, fill up a plastic bowl and cram on the lid — If you want both, queue for the hot food first, then join the line for salad afterwards They don’t seem to mind at all if you cram in lots and lots of food in(as long as you can close the lid) so you can try a bit of everything… it is a filling, healthy and cheap lunch.

Grab a hot food styrofoam takeaway box and load up with lasagne pasta, chicken or opt for salad. You can really walk away with a belly full of bargain here compared to other places in the area.

Ah L’Express, we’ve had some good times and bad times huh? Big salad bars always make me happy and your pasta salads and veg selection usually hits the spot. Today though, I fancied something hot so I chanced a baked potato with cheese and beans. Opening the box I was confronted with an unholy mess of beans and nuked cheese. The poor potato never stood a chance and was practically melted underneath it all. I also got barked at by the counter assistant because I obviously didn’t know the etiquette for ordering food. I hate feeling like an idiot because I’m not in the right spot or saying the wrong thing. Makes me just want to get a salad and scurry out again. But I’m the forgiving kind so I’ll be back, maybe a panini the next time, just don’t mess it up, savvy?

I got a takeaway lunch here today and it was so great. I’ve always passed it but its so full of business suits I was scared to go in. Today myself and my friend got a medium chicken spinach pasta and a large salad bowl, which was so huge that there was still leftovers after we both ate. The pasta was gorgeous, the spinach sauce was almost like a creamy pesto, so delicious. They had other hot food options too; vegetarian lasagna, chili con carne with rice and a regular lasagna. The salad bar is fantastic too, they have a huge selection of gourmet salads; couscous, humus, cold pasta, different types of lettuce & vegetables. For our huge meal it cost £10.60 all together and it was so tasty I would have paid double that. It is my new favourite Mayfair eating spot.
