Lombok to me, feels like a slightly more boring version of if Pier 1 and Restoration Hardware had a baby. Which I guess is sometimes what you’re after if you’re looking for hurricane candle holders and wicker baskets, but some of it left me feeling uninspired. I’ll admit, this store is part Mandala, part Raft, part just about everything else you’ve walked into lately. They do have very nice wooden chairs, that would make a good contrast piece in a room. I think to have everything in your home from these types of stores would be really heavy, but it’s nice to get some pieces that pick up different design quirks.

I want to like Lombok’s furniture; it’s heavy, grown up, and very dark. Just a little too dark for my liking. However I have an embarrassing penchant for Rococo style furnishings, or, failing that, cheap as chips Scandinavian design — *cough* Ikea *cough* — which is infinitely more suited to the non-style of my humble rented flat. It’s in a hypothetical kind of way that I browse shops like Lombok then, myself preferring its quite impressive array of silk, cotton and velvet bedspreads and throws which give Heals’ designs a run for their overpriced money. Having worked in a shop specialising in South East Asian design and seen the prices to have things made in this region I’m not thoroughly convinced of Lombok’s prices but then this is London after all.

The style Lombok offers in nothing new, but once I saw the dark wood furniture, big silk cushions and and bed linen, I was sold. The contrast of dark and light colours, large size and materials makes this concept work. Beautifully made accessories like baskets, ceramic or glass vases and candles makes good statement pieces for home. The far eastern theme is there, but with a very modern touch.

Lombok is just up my street. I love the beautiful, clean, modern minimalistic stuff here. The wicker furniture is offset by lovely well made linens in monochrome colours. Everything here is tasteful with a island sort of charm. The furniture here is Indonesian. They do a stunning 4 poster bed and a silver plated leaf that works in a vase. This store is obviously expensive and has a white rug, near when you walk in. I didn’t feel well dressed enough for this store when I came in(I’ve been to their location near Oxford Street before) but I was soon focusing on a vase and not really aware of anything else.
