Nice alternative way to experience the canal while leisurely floating to places like Camden market and the Zoo. You wait in line for your turn and then pay on the boat. They take card and cash but be nice to the man and just have the exact amount in pounds. :) Would definitely take friends on this if we were in the area and wanted to go to any of the bus destinations.

If you are looking for an alternative to the hustle and bustle of the underground, this is certainly an effective mode of transportation with a view. I recently used this for the first time and decided to opt against taking the tube back from Camden Lock so that I could ride the boat(the return ticket is cheaper than two one-way tickets). I went on a Sunday, so Camden Lock was crowded, so this was a nice and comfortable way to get to and from the Paddington area and take in some beautiful scenery. It’s not quick, but was worth it given the good weather and the opportunity to see a different side of London… and it’s not just tourists — there were locals on board as well!

London is a busy city. That is great, but sometimes you might look for a quiet distraction from the stressful city life. A good way to discover calm places is to explore London’s canals and parks. The London Waterbus from Little Venice to Camden Lock provides a great opportunity to connect both, canals and parks. Admittedly, it is not the quickest mode of transport and depending on the other passengers on your boat, not the quietest either, but it definitely provides a different view of London. And you can get off at London Zoo and walk around in Regent’s Park. You cannot use your Oyster card for boarding and in my opinion, it’s a bit expensive and slow for a regular ride, but if you want to show visitors a different side of London, a trip with the London Waterbus might be a good idea.
