A wonderful experience… service was excellent, and the food quite good. Loved that they had Makers Mark at the bar… empty when we arrived(right at opening time at 6), but quickly filled. Try the chicken khumbi bahar…

This is a decent enough Indian place, but nothing to knock your socks off. We came down here at the suggestion of the concierge at the hotel, and while it wasn’t bad, we were hoping for something better given the quality of the Indian and Pakistani in London in general. We came in for lunch on a Sunday, and while the interior is beautiful, the place was a ghost town. The service was a bit slow, but we weren’t in a hurry. Also, if you want to try the lunch special(£8.95 I think) you need to ask for the special menu, which is a sub-set of the regular menu. As for the food, it was decent Indian, but nothing amazing. The tandoori chicken was good, but not as moist as the one at The Shad off Tooley St. My lamb Karai was also good, but could have used some more heat(spicy heat that is) to bring it up a notch. Overall a beautiful place for a slightly upscale meal, but the food was only average.

Lovage has potentially one of the chillest, coolest bars in the whole of Shad Thames. This isn’t a great feat, since Shad Thames is actually tiny, but, still. The bar competes for local custom with the posh riverside establishments, which are swanky and vainglorious. Which is, probably, why Lovage’s bar was completely empty barring two patrons who were enjoying a pint while waiting for their takeaway food when I was there. I should mention that I was also only in the bar to enjoy a pint while waiting for my takeaway food. But I enjoyed the atmosphere nonetheless, complete with a soundless Bollywood film playing on the flatscreen mounted to the far wall. And I soaked up this atmosphere and thought to myself, ‘I would come back here to just enjoy some beers and unobtrusive Bollywood in the future.‘ And then my food arrived and I paid a not-substantial sum for it and I took it back to my flat and I ate it. And I thought, ‘That is some pretty unobtrusive Indian food I just ate.‘ So there you go. Lovage is a pretty cool Indian restaurant to visit, with its modern interior and the(I’ll admit somewhat intimidating) doorman dressed in a rather fetching sparkling dhoti. But the food is just so-so. It’s perhaps impressive when consumed in a sexily low-lit dining room with Bollywood films playing in the background, but not so much when you’re sitting on your couch in your dingy pajamas and watching Embarrassing Bodies on the telly.

Excellent value for money, excellent food and excellent customer service! I visited Lovage for the first time on Saturday night and it was brilliant! I live in the area and didn’t realise it was there but I happened across and was tempted in after viewing the outside menu and the lovely man dressed in stunning Indian clothing stood outside. From the min we walked in we were treated like VIP’s, our coats were taken, we were shown to the lounge area and our drinks order was immediately taken. it was busy but the lounge area is very comfortable we almost forgot we were there for dinner and not just drinks. I cannot fault the staff in there, they are absolute pros and seem to really take pride in their jobs. As for the food — WOW! absolutely delicious and stunningly presented! The best thing of all was the bill! for such a stunning contemporary Indian restaurant, great service and delicious food we were expecting it to be rather pricey but at just over £50 including drinks for 2 of us we were both very very impressed! To top it off we were walked to the door and sent on our way with a cheery smile and wave.

Excellent restaurant that I would highly recommend. The food and service are excellent while the prices are fairly reasonable. Very nice décor. It is often very quiet when I visit: I really don’t understand this especially when compared with the custom that its main competitor seems able to attract. Maybe it could do some homework on self-promotion?

For all the Desi’s out there — there’s better, less bland food in London. We ate a buffet here on a Sunday. The place was empty & the service almost non existent. The ambiance isn’t bad, so it make this a nice place to take spice averse non-Indians to. Toilets are clean & cant be seen from the dining area, which is always a good thing.

Very touch and go, great ambience, but very variable food. Some days the tarka dahl is a sublime combination of split peas, chile, garlic and burnt onion, some days it’s mostly ghee. Really you are best going for the Sunday buffet.
