Exceptionally bad customer service. Bought very expensive Macintosh coat and glue on both pockets failed after two years. Contacted Mackintosh about a repair and original response was to ‘just send it to the factory.’ Yeah, sure, it wasn’t expensive, I’ll happily just send it to a factory and hope someone repairs it and returns it to me? Tried again in July; new policy is that you cannot send it to the factory, you have to go via the retailer. I bought it in New York, and now I’m in Scotland, sending a coat to New York to send back to Scotland is irresponsible and farcical. After TWOMONTHS of negotiations between the retailer and Mackintosh I received an email saying I could send it to the factory and pay £100. to have them re-glue both pockets and another £20. to return it to me. Thank you Mackintosh for the shittiest customer service I have ever experienced. Your coats don’t last forever, the glue on mine lasted about two years, and getting it fixed was a Sisyphean task. Don’t waste your money on a Mackintosh.

I would only recommend buying a traditional Mackintosh coat if you are interested in owning an expensive raincoat that easily picks of stains but is virtually impossible to clean effectively. I have corresponded with the company via email and all they offer is their advice that you carefully scrub the garment with Dove soap which is, of course, too mild to remove the surprisingly significant amount of soil that the coat will pick up with even casual urban use. The coat cannot be dry cleaned and the company offers no professional cleaning service. Until they come up with some way of maintaining these expensive garments, it is hard to see how they would expect to continue selling them.
