I’m rarely in London during working hours, so when they recently opened up on Saturday I felt as if the world shook. Love this place and the staff. The humorous notice about patrons on their phones always makes me chuckle.

The very thin, brick oven-type pizza is their specialty. The fresh, tomato-y sauce is awesome and the Italian sausage has just the right spiciness. If your arteries can handle it, get an order of homemade onion rings. Other Italian items on the menu worth trying are the lasagna one the best you’ll ever have and the Italian fried chicken. I love here.

Von wegen Pampe! Der Pizzateig ist hervorragend und der Belag mit Bedacht ausgewählt. Ich fand es sehr gut!

Well, it clearly must have been good once but not anymore. I went today, making a special trip to sample their pizza, and I wasn’t at all impressed. For my £5 I was served a meagre, but considering the following an ample, portion of horrifically and quickly made hard, flavourless biscuity base with a lifeless tomato sauce spread over it and a couple of token anchovies, capers and chunks of mozzarella scattered on top. I’m not being harsh, fussy or snobby, I’m just being frank. Tie pizza is not worth it and doesn’t justify the following it has got and the reputation it rides on. If you want excellent pizza then go to Santa Maria in Ealing. You won’t find anything better in London(probably in UK for that matter) guaranteed. They know what they’re doing and they do it beautifully. The style is of course different being Neapolitan but it’s 100% authentic to Naples, whereas Malletti’s is definitely not authentic Pizza al taglio. Authenticity aside, it’s not even enjoyable. I would love to be singing this place’s praises and recommending everyone I know to go there but I just can’t. My experience of their pizza left me aghast that anyone eats there. I haven’t had worse pizza than theirs. My advice is to take your £5(and your mobile if you like) just round the corner to have excellent pizza from two young and fun pizzaiolos– the pizza pilgrims. They’re on Berwick street market and their pizza is excellent. Sorry Malletti

The best pizza slice in London? I don’t know, but I’ve yet to find better. And I’m a madman for pizza. The simple details: stripped down hole-in-the-wall slot in soho, quick-fire service with brilliant«no mobile» rude signage. Trays of pizza sit ready made, you order a slice it’s quickly heated up, you head out and eat(or grab one of the squeezed counter seats). There’s a fast-moving queue often. The result: slices are near 4 quid and initially don’t look huge(first time round I grumpily shared five with the mrs — and boy did we regret that over-order). Each is a thin crisp sliver of perfect dough on which are loaded the richest, tastiest ingredients. Yes, that does mean Malletti pizzas are occasionally greasy(for us veggies, it’s the marinated aubergines). But the taste! The TASTE! The ingredients used are tip-top quality and fresh. The selections classic, for a good reason. Again, if anyone has a better pizza in London, I’m there! Meanwhile, I’ll be sitting on the grass in Soho Square with a divine slice or two from here.

Nice selections of pizza squares, fun staff. Some pizzas are a bit greasy at times though

If there is a place in the world that knows the true sanctity of the pizza it is Maletti. Made with true passion, real attitude and more than just a slice of Italian-ness, this pizzeria really is the ONLY place in the entire world to grab a great bite of the hallowed slice. Owned and run by a crazy guy from Rome, stereotypically called Tony, though now living in Streatham, it imbues everything that every other Italian resto falls short of. All I can say is «don’t piss Tony off» because he will send in the mafia hit squad! What else to say that I haven’t said already? Great thin-crust pizza, great ingredients, and perfectly cooked. All I can say is, if you order pizza and have it heated, don’t take it away, because(a) it will get cold, and(b) the gooooey cheese will only get stuck all over the bag =( So order in, and nosh it up … Can’t get enough of this place!

A pizza bar that is quite extraodinary… To me, it is one of the best takeaway spots from the city. The shop is located in the middle of Soho, not far from Oxford street. Many people queue up at noon, but don’t hesitate to join them. Behind the window, apart from the Italian boss, you can find the renowned pizza slices, pastas and focaccia. They give you hot food or reheated dishes, in a yellow cool bag. About the pizza: it’s perfect. The dough is thin and nourishing, the garnishing is sooo fresh. I recommend the delicious Four seasons with mozzarella, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, eggplant and fresh spinach. The Italien flag colors! Don’t miss the focaccia, they are thick enough. My only regret was the price: £4 for two little squares of pizza, same for the focaccia. You pay for the quality and for the neighbourhood!

Work in Soho? Like carbs? Then have I got a tip for you! Actually, chances are you’ve already discovered this lovely yellow gem of a pizzeria, but let me just recommend it to you again because it’s bloody awesome. Italian staff who don’t take any nonsense, great variety and choice, proper pizza made with proper ingredients, and it’s very very cheap… ok I made that last bit up, it’s actually a bit pricey but this is the middle of medialand so what do you expect?

I always have a tendency to come to TimeOut’s top rated places much later than everyone else, but even with the hype of receiving the recent accolade of being one London’s top five places to get a «slice», it did not disappoint. There’s not a lot to Maletti other than awesome food. You can’t really eat in, so make sure you have an office or a park to take refuge in. Having arrived early to avoid queuing myself and Disco Perkins immediately clocked the delicious calzone and decided that along with a slice of pizza we would also have to invest in that too. I went with the spicy sausage(3.95 nuggets) and Perkins went with a cheesy, peppers covered number(also 3.95 nuggets) The Calzone was a little more spenny but totally worth it(4 nuggets). We took the food to Soho Sqaure, basked in the sunshine and stared longingly at the beautiful women of Soho. Once the foils bags were ripped open it was like sex… except we were having it together… The pizza was verging on the side of heart attack, but surely that’s what makes it so awesome. I managed to successfully un-do all the good work in the gym with my double helping of pizza and side of Calzone. Totally worth it though. Perhaps the only reason I didn’t rate this Pizzeria 5 stars was because from what I have heard the queues can often be out of the door and with staff that are so friendly and laid back the speed of service suffers. A minor fault though because the wait it totally worth it. You win again TimeOut — Fantastico!

I finally found the best pizza place in Soho! Be prepared to queue, it is a popular spot. It’s worth it though, you’ll be rewarded with a deliciously tasty slice of pizza. Well actually two small slices to be precise ;-). All pizzas are £ 3.95 and the different varieties I’ve tried so far were all really nice. Pizzas are prebaked and on display for you to chose from. They are heated up so the base becomes slightly crisp. You can either eat in — there are only a few stools though and you are a little bit squeezed against the wall by people waiting — or have your pizza to go. What’s a bit annoying about the latter option is that slices are partially placed on top of each oher and no matter how careful I tried to transport them I’ve always ended up with the topping of the bottom one coming half off when separating the slices. Yes, I will remember to ask for the slices to be places next to another. Next time, because I’m definitely going back!

Pizza with a slice of attitude! You can usually tell a place is good when the queue stretches right out the door. Mallettis are so sure of their customer loyalty, they have a sign that reads ‘if you are even thinking of talking on your mobile, you will be totally ignored’. You have to bark your order at them before scuttling along for the next customer — very Soup Nazi-esque. Sure puts those west end office workers in their place! Mallettis serves huge rectangular slices of pizza with mouthwatering toppings, pasta and risottos. It’s mostly takeaway, so bring it back to your desk and watch your co-workers craning their necks to see what smells so good.

Lunch can be an uninspiring repetitive affair with few options other than sarnie or soup, soup or sarnie. Or maybe Sushi for a treat. Something quick and something inexpensive is always important but it’s gotta be tasty. So think pizza pizza pizza! Pizza al taglio is an Italian institution and something you will find on many an Italian street corner. It’s quick, easy and affordable. Pizza al taglio places are thin on the ground in these parts but there is Malletti’s on Noël Street. Pizza is served up in big trays from which they’ll cut you a slice. The toppings are mixed and generous but be sure to head there before early afternoon to avoid disappointment this place is popular and they sell out quick smart. The shop is small and simply kitted out. Counter one side, place to queue on the other. K.I.S.S keep it simple stupid. These guys have and made it an art.

When I was working around Soho(my first job in fact) I had a boss who was crazy for two things: Satsuma(on Wardour Street) and this place, Malletti. What a great idea, take out pizza slices and pasta that doesn’t break the bank. If you happen to pass the window, you’ll see an array of colourful slices of pizza and lots of pasta that is homemade, authentic and burting with flavour. There’s lots of choice here too — there’s something for everyone. There are plain cheese and tomato pizzas, the usual pepperoni numbers and the pasta isn’t dry and doesn’t taste like it’s been left out all day. At lunch times there is a bit of a queue but you can get served pretty quickly in my experience. This is great for the hungry shopper or a Soho worker on a budget. Nom nom nom!

Malletti is a famous take away pizzeria and gets very busy during lunch on weekdays and it’s not unusual for the queue to snake out the door and down the pavement. If I had to quibble about it I would have to say that it’s an expensive lunch and I know a lot of people who don’t find it hugely filling and have to get double portions. It also has a policy of taking a dim view of people who use their mobile phones inside and the staff can be quite brusque in enforcing it — even with people who only answer their phones whilst in line to tell people they’ll call them back. It all seems a little unnecessary as it’s only a take away with a tiny counter to eat at. Even that counter isn’t a great place to wolf your food down as you’re constantly jostled by people trying to leave with their purchases.

Having previously stated that I am rather fussy about my Italian food, I am decidedly not fussy at all when it comes to Malletti. Although the servers are usually Polish girls, the owners are real Italians and the food is as authentic as it could get in London. They sell mouth-watering pizzas — sold in the Italian manner known as «Pizza al Taglio», translating into«Pizza by the Cut». Each piece of pizza is cut into rectangles and usually weighed to calculate the price. Judging from the queues, this must be one of Soho’s workforce favourite lunch spots. The variety of Pizza is wide and new ones are continuously brought out. There is also usually a choice of pasta or risotto of-the-day which are just as good if not better. My only negative remark on the food, might be that they are a bit easy on the olive oil. There is hardly any seating, so it is usually best to get it as take away and eat it in a park or at your desk. This food is so popular it usually sells out pretty fast, so get there early.

This is one of my favourite lunchtime take-away spots. And by the looks of the queues that flood out of the door every day between 12 and 2, I’m not the only one who thinks that this place is great. Their pastas and risottos are amazing. If you can’t decide which one to go for then ask for a box half-filled with two different ones. The gnocchi is also fantastic there. And there’s always a decent choice of vegetarian options However, it could probably be argued that it is the pizzas that make this place so popular. They have a large selection of very impressive pizzas that seem to be different each time I go. I’m not sure I’ve had pizza as good as this anywhere in London. And watch out for the sign that says no mobiles. They’ve refused to serve people who are talking on the phone while ordering. And rightly so!

Have just had the fabled ‘half-and-half’, a combination of risotto and pasta in my case but which can be a combination of any two dishes on offer. As galadriel, ahunter and Rob Hinchcliffe have already said, this is perhaps the best Italian take-away in Soho. The food is superlative, fresh, hot, filling and above all, tasty. The service is also very Italian, a frown and a gruff manner where a smile would normally be the case but underneath it all. .. . soft and sweet really!

This sexy yellow pizzeria in the heart of Soho queues up quickly at lunch hour, and is sold out by 3pm. The full array of pasta, sandwiches, and thin-crust pizza in exciting flavours — roasted peppers, pickled mushrooms, brocolli and prosciutto — are gourmet and authentic italian. You choose them as you queue, order quickly, wait for it to heat up, and enjoy your £3.50’s worth of a slice of pizza that is regretfully small. Most regulars order two.
