Avoid it. They told my friend and I they’d do 25% off and a free beer/wine, we figured, sure why not? How bad can it be? The prices were far too high for what was offered, both in taste and small portion size. If I had never had good Indian food before I might think this place was decent, but it’s pretty terrible. Note that they do not offer rice or naan with the meal, so add another 3 pounds to what is already unreasonably priced small portions to get the actual price of the meal The wait staff was inexcusably rude. They charged us for things we did not buy, lied about prices, and when we tried to order one plate of rice the waiter got angry and kept repeating«It’s not enough for two!»(maybe five times, and gave us dirty looks), so we said we would see about that, and sure enough it was enough for two. We waited for probably 40 minutes for the food when no one else was there, and another 40 minutes after they took the plates away to get our check(probably to make it look like people actually ate there). There’s better on Brick Lane and in White Chapel.

Following a great afternoon in Brick Lane, you can’t really leave without having a curry! So as usual, Unilocal was consulted and we decided on Mango. Well it didn’t disappoint. A great venue for a group of friends to enjoy good Indian food. Although we had already decided on Mango, before entering the restaurant, we were invited to dine by staff touting for your business with the added incentive of a 30% discount on the entire meal with 2 rounds of free drinks. My tip here is allow them to bribe you to dine as you’ll enjoy good food no matter what. Go on give it a go… it makes it taste better and more fun knowing you’ve negotiated a discount and some freebies tee hee.

I have a lovely bunch of coconuts! Well not exactly, more like mangoes but that didn’t go as well. Not a curry person? Me either but it funny how a managed to have it twice in one week, say it with me — «peer pressure!» However I must add, that if one is going to have curry, the beat place to have it is the legendary Brick Lane. The food was divine and note to self(yourself not myself) bartering is good — we were offered 30% off the bill and a round of drinks. I somehow managed to get a further two round on top of that however I think it did help that it was my birthday ;o)

Visiting London for a couple of days, we looked on Unilocal for suggestions around the hotel for good Indian food. Found Mango on Brick Lane. Food was quite good, nicely spiced(and I’m very critical about that!), portions just like we’re used to in the States, and quite reasonably priced(for London downtown). Our bill for starters + 2 main courses + 2 rice + 2 naan(ok, we overdid it a bit ;) was 46 pounds sterling for 2 people(in London you can easily pay that for 1!). We ordered the vegetarian sampler appetizers(good variety), the Bollywood Blast(spicy lamb!) and chicken korma(nicely sweet and coconutty — good contrast to the tomatoey spiciness of the Blast). Plus we had a plain naan and a Peshawari naan(yummy — but pretty sweet). I’m tempted to give Mango an extra star just for not having someone out on the street trying to drag you into the restaurant(Brick Lane is full of «food hawkers» like that — very off-putting). Service was good(not outstanding, mind you, but certainly fine). Ambiance was perfectly nice(we didn’t want to pay for fancy surroundings — would rather eat at a restaurant like this where they’ve invested more in the kitchen than in the dining room). For a very nice Indian dining experience in East London, I strongly recommend Mango on Brick Lane!

This has to be my favorite Indian restaurant on Brick Lane in London! I order the Bollywood Blast dish that is usually made with lamb but I asked if I could have it made with chicken and they did and it was delicious! Very spicy(just how I like it), but not too spicy. I always get the wonderful garlic naan, basmati rice, and cucumber raita when I am there also. If you go with a group of people you can usually get some sort of a discount on alcohol as well!
