A lovely local market stall, open all week(usually — sometimes they’re shut on a Sunday without warning) and carrying a nice range of fruit and veg). Not everything here is perfect, oddly the corner shop has better tomatoes and bananas on a regular basis, but it’s good to have the wider variety. Only real challenge is that it closes before I get home most days, but it’s open in the morning and I sometimes grab a piece of fruit on the way in, so no all bad.

This is, by far, the best quality /quantity fruit and veggies market I’ve ever been to. I can’t remember paying so little money, even when I lived in Rwanda ! And the variety is quite impressive as well, just like the fact that you always get nice smiles from the helpful staff.

When I initially read about Market Garden, I assumed it would be a wee bit cheaper than the high street chains. Not ’ .always’ cheaper. But in all seriousness, I must shop here. Always. Five Braeburn apples for £1. Large bags of fresh rosemary, basil, thyme, parsley for £1. A 1lb of carrots for .40p, potatoes for .35/lb(that’s half of what the big store down the street charges)! The selection was relatively large and the quality was beautiful. I was in heaven. I must digress that in the same way I am confused on why babies are weighed in lbs, but adults are weighed in stones/kg,(and that you drive in MPH), I’m not sure why veggies are weighed by the lb. But I’m not complaining. That way I can literally buy my body weight in veg from Market Garden. And still have money for the pub next door.

Market Garden is a rather large fruit and vegetable market in Islington. I’ve always been happy with the quality of the produce here, and it’s really reasonably priced too. My only gripe is that I expect, or at least hope, that the grocerer is a happy sort of person someone who enjoys some witty banter and will happily point you in the direction of the rocket. Or pears. Or whatever. The woman here wasn’t overtly friendly — not rude — just… indifferent. Which was a bit disappointing.

The Market Garden has a great stock of fresh fruit and vegetables that are fresher than the supermarkets and a bit cheaper too. I sometimes pick up some fruit from here to enjoy in the park at Islington Green on a sunny day. There is a large range of organic produce as well. Its the only fruit and veg market of its kind in Islington, and its always busy as its cheaper than the supermarkets. Its great for local residents, who always have fresh supplies of groceries on hand, and at reasonable rates too. I hate going to supermarkets now, so I’m utterly spoiled by all the wonderful little grocery stores in London.
