Had a craving for phở, so found this place that was just down the street. Unfortunately, they had only one type of phở, the broth tasted fake, and they had not even the option of having sriracha sauce on the side! By far, the worst phở I’ve ever had. My spring rolls were better and I can’t speak for what my friend had, but do not go to this place for phở.

Desperate to find acceptable phở after a recent trip to Vietnam I sought out Mekong today(the sole Vietnamese restaurant in Pimlico)… and was sorely disappointed. The Phở was nothing more than tagliatelle and spaghetti in an apparently stock cube-infused broth, accompanied by limp bean sprouts and horribly tough slices of beef. Ouch. To round off the experience I opted for a Halida and Vietnamese coffee, which were better: the Halida its usual unexciting(but nostalgia-fulfiling) self; the coffee not bad at all, if slightly pricey(£3.50). My friend went for a Banh Xeo, which seemed a relatively soggy, overcooked version, but probably better than my phở. Still, these are not in my view sufficient to edge the score to A-OK. Next time I’m in need of broth goodness in Pimlico/Victoria I’ll be venturing to Pret, Eat or similar for a superior and cheaper effort.

I have never had vietnamese food at other places, but enjoyed it here. The main courses are good for the value prices they charge, starters a bit more expensive for a starter but they are even better than the mains so worth tge extra, liked it each time I have been and will return. Service good, décor is nice, so left happy to have been there.

This is one of my preferred local dining/takeaway choices for Chinese/Vietnamese food. Food is cheap compared to any other restaurants that are nearby. It’s not top quality food but it is edible. Owner is super friendly. Only downside is the space– it is very compact.

I’d been out and about in the Tate Britain and after some hours of intensly staring at pretty pictures I had a hankering for some south-east Asian grub. Although Mekong is a Vietnamese restaraunt, they have a Thai section on their menu too. Only a small place, the bar and seating area is a little tight for space — not that it mattered, the place was empty. Greeted with smiles and welcoming motions towards a small table by the window. We perused the menu with haste and before we knew it, a young waitress was carrying our meals over. All seemed to be going well. Things, as it turned out, didn’t go so well from there on as the the food was a bit dire. The rice was OK but the main meal is what lets Mekong down. The beef(or pork, I can’t quite remember) had a rather unagreeable consistancy to it but the worst part was the sauce. Too much of it and just not very nice. Not a thick flavoursome sauce but a runny, watery bland«sauce» with too few meat and veg chunks. Friendly staff and a pleasant enough feel to the place but with food like this, what’s the point? Really liked the spring rolls and sizzling ginger and lamb dish and the service was great… the first time. From there it went downhill. The four vegetable stirfry was canned Chinese veg heated up. I ordered the same lamb dish as on my first visit, but received sweet and sour lamb. When I pointed this out, they refused to correct the order. Nice staff, but dissappointing food.

The food was cheap, but not really Vietnamese enough for my taste. It’s an ok Chinese place but too heavily on the sauce for me.

I had a mixed experience at Mekong; on the one hand they have a really chap dinner menu, and they serve you loads and loads of food. Unfortunately not all the dishes where up too my expectations. The starters where really good, spring rolls wrapped in fresh lettuce leafs, and the prawn cakes where awesome, but it kind of went down the hill from there, to much salt and garlic. The service is great though, really friendly. The space is tiny, really tiny, but with a relaxed ambiance. All in all I might go back but this time instead of having the set menu I will order from the menu.
