Staying in the city and wanted to try place close to hotel instead of heading across town to the west end. Did the tasting menu and every course was fantastic. Only complaint was the wine list was not deep and lacked good mid-range options — jumped from L70 nondescript bordeaux to L600 Mouton Rothschild.

What can I say? Morgan M is absolutely wonderful and quite possibly one of my favourite restaurants in all of London. I lived next door to their«new» location on Long Lane for a year and got to know it well. Each item on the menu stands out and is prepared with extra care. The sea bream in particular is to die for. Staff members from the top down are the golden combination of knowledgable but also very unintimidating and accessible. If you have questions, don’t be afraid to ask– you’ll get no judgments or attitude here! Don’t let the occasional lack of a crowd(the City can be unpredictable and empty across the board at times) fool you– this is a real treat.

I wanted Morgan M to blow me away but it fell just a tad short. I had wanted to go when it was in Highbury and I don’t know if it had more soul when it was up in that area. We went for lunch and the décor is bland. The service was really good – felt well-looked after. The highlight was the amuse bouche soup – butternut squash with sage. It was fabulous. We had the fish of the day with purée and beurre blanc and the buerre blanc and purée mixed together and made the dish really heavy. The chocolate fondant was just a chocolate fondant. But in general a very nice restaurant – if you want nice French dining you might want to check this place out.

It was gorgeous enough!!! All our clients were fully appreciated with food, wine and service! There were good and qualified servers and ladies were extremely kind and sophisticated! Love to visit again at next time as well!

Small portions and a stiff price… this could be one headline for our dining experience at Morgan M. But I don’t think that does it real justice, because although the portions were small and the price was rather stiff, we left the establishment feeling completely satiated and the lingering taste of that delightful pineapple soufflé sweetened the tube journey home. Let me preface this review by saying that I am no professional food critique and so I’m not gonna go into detail about the composition of the food etc… but to be honest, I think if I’d brought one along he or she would have been very pleased. In fact, the food at Morgan M is really what stands out(as is intended) and Morgan M’s wish has definitely come true for me: «Only when a guest is touched by the spirit of my dishes have I succeeded.» All four of us skipped starters and we ordered only mains and desserts — which turned out to be a good choice, as we did get two freebies along with these orders: an amuse bouche and a pre-dessert dessert! All of the dishes that I tasted were delicious… and this is where I would let the professional food critique chime in, as I feel ill-equipped to talk about food in elaborate terms. But may I share some things that I found could’ve been better? — The service. Actually, let me rephrase that: the kind of service. The waiters were all very professional and obviously well-trained and every move was perfect.(I can say that, because I did learn this stuff at some point in my career too!) But could they have been any stiffer? Come on, loosen up a little and join the conversation! In fact, this is what me and my dinner-companions discussed quite vigorously: we don’t want the service team to be distanced and all-too-professional — that seems to be a thing of the past. For us a good service involves a much greater interaction between the guest and the hosts. I don’t want to be feeling as if I’m waited on, but I want to be a part of a community — the Morgan M community in this case. In any case, the latter didn’t deter me from enjoying the food very much — as this was the centre piece of the evening anyway — and so my overall verdict is 4 stars… after all, the food did touch my spirit!

Thanks to my Unilocal buddy Tirthankar D for organising our meal at Morgan M. It’s the favourite restaurant of one of his friends from New York Unbeknownest to us, the restaurant had only moved its location from its original Holloway site to the bigger premises in the Barbican on Monday. As our waiter quipped,“can’t you smell the paint?” The restaurant is now located conveniently across the road from the world famous Smithfield Market Morgan M offers an a la carte option as well as 6 course vegetarian and non-vegetarian tasting menus. Most tables were having the tasting menus when we visited The décor is great with a nice lounge area with comfy sofas to sit if the rest of your party has yet to arrive. The cutlery is very comtemporary, balancing on the blade of the knife though they have caught the current vogue of decorative plates present on the table when you arrive, only for them to be whipped away once you’ve ordered. Tirthankar and I opted for the tasting meu, non vegetarian of course. It’s nice that they offer a choice of 2 options for the starter, main meat course and dessert. 1. Butternut soup with rosemary & olive oil, wild mushroom tempura All the other elements were plated prettily in the bowl before the soup was poured dramatically at the table. I loved the accents of rosemary in the sweet soup. The mushroom in the tempura ball had been chopped but retained enough texture to be identified as mushroom 2. Crayfish & lobster canneloni with tarragon, Jerusalem artichoke soubise, shellfish cappucino There was a lot of umami coming through with this dish — the Jerusalem artichike and shellfish cappucino enhanced each other’s potency 3. Seared John dory, coco beans ‘de Paimpol’, hazelnuts, parsely root purée, champagne froth I liked this dish but wasn’t really sure about the hazelnuts in combination with the other flavours 4. Pot roasted fillet of venison, farci of hare, sweet potato purée, sauce Grand Veneur The fillet was wonderful — cooked evenly all the way through with a good sear on the outside. The hare in the farci was fork tender and after trying to guess what the outside skin of the farci was made of, we had to ask and the answer was surprisingly cabbage 5. Light vailla rice pudding, orange tuile Yay for retro rice pudding, especially when it’s the perfect palate clanser 6. Pineapple soufflé & coulis, piña colada sorbet, coconut tuile They didn’t have any pineapple juice but I finally got my soufflé at the end of the meal. The coulis was poured into the soufflé at the table and married well with the other tropical style ingredients There were some long gaps between courses but bearing in mind this is their first week, that’s perhaps to be expected with teething problems. Service was really friendly throughout though again, it was a little fraught at times Chef Morgan M popped out of the kitchen at the end of the evening to come round and chat to guests, which was a nice touch

My first tasting menu ever(and I’ve loved it ever since). My boyfriend and I decided to check this place out as it seemed interesting and had many vegetarian options. Agreed, we were a bit apprehensive — I mean, a high-end restaurant in zone 2? Come on. But go we did. And glad we are. So so glad we are that we did. Utterly modest both in terms of location and décor and the waitstaff, Morgan M just overwhelmed us by the delicious food they dished out course after course. Every single course left us wanting more of it, until the next course arrived. We had the summer menu — from the garden, with the wine pairing. the first course was the chilled gazpacho — the olive oil sorbet was innovative touch. The next was a trio of avocado and aubergine caviar, tomato tuile and red pepper sorbet. This is one of the best dishes I have tasted ever. EVER! The tastes and textures of each of the components combined perfectly in all their delicious glory. I could go on and on. Oh well. The next course was mushrooms, and yet another course was the risotto. Both cleanly presented and well buttered by the French chef :) For dessert, we had the rice pudding(yum), strawbery soup(yum) and the apricot soufflé(OHMYGODYUM). I first ate here in September 2007, and I always had fond memories. I returned here after a year, and although the menu was the same, the food was just as delicious. Though I admit that I wasn’t as overwhelmed this time. Too much fine-dining has me spoilt.

Morgan M isn’t as well known or trendy as those restaurants in SoHo, Chelsea, etc but it’s still one of my favorites in London. Of course it helped that it was just down the street from my flat but in the entire 4 years I was living there I never managed to eat at Morgan M until right before I left. A very nice restaurant with great food at fabulous prices. £45 for a 6 course tasting menu? Where else are you going to get a deal like that? And I have I mentioned the food? Fantastic. Better than most other Michelin starred restaurants in London. I will admit it’s been 3 years since I’ve eaten there so I don’t remember the specifics. But just thinking about the meal always brings a smile to my face and makes me hunger for Morgan M.
