Now, it’s only possible to go wrong in a couple of ways with sausage and mash, and based on some experience, quality isn’t a problem here. As a previous reviewer noted, there are a base set of ingredients to which things are added(not a bad system, and, let’s face it, in common usage in your average curry house) — but the results aren’t at all bad– I recommend the horseradish .Plus, sausage, mash, and a(soft) drink will only run you about a tenner. Service can be a bit slow, though.

This place gets really busy — even for the area that it serves. The pies are fantastic and the mash generous. Plenty of gravy too and a really good way to stodge up if you’re struggling through the day feeling«fragile». The only reason that I“m deducting a star is the cost of adding some beans or peas — an absolute rip off. Doesn’t stop me from going back week-in week-out though.

So maybe it’s the fact that I love London. Or it could be that I love British people. It may be that a delicacy, if that’s what you prefer it call it, like bangers in mash, is a rarity back where I come from and that I am simply mesmerized by how a simple dish like this could be so delicious. Scratch that. It’s all of the above. I love Mother Mash. Once upon a time, my girlfriend and I decided to backpack the European continent. Our first few days were spent in London and without much knowledge of British cuisine. It was just a few days before Thanksgiving and we found ourselves scouring East London for a pub that wasn’t packed to the gills where we could grab some grub. We stumbled upon Mother Mash, which although not a pub, served a variety of bangers and mash without the massive crowds of people. We were seated and chose from a variety of, you guessed it, bangers and mash.(That’s mashed potatoes and sausage for my friends back in the states). Since I was feeling like a champ, I went for the Champ Mash(Irish mash with milk, butter, cheddar cheese, and spring onions) and Lincolnshire Sausage(free range), topped off with Farmer’s Gravy(red wine, onion, smoked bacon, and mushrooms). My companion ordered the Cheesy Mustard Mash(no explanation needed) and a Fish Pie, topped with Traditional Gravy. We happily washed our food down with a Fuller’s London’s Pride and a Bulmers Original Cider. The gentleman who was serving us asked us where we were from, gave us some history of bangers and mash, and told us about some cool spots in Soho. Everything down to the last spoonful was delicious. In fact, everything was so good, that for the next two months, we often dreamt of coming back again before we left to go home. Our dreams were crushed since the restaurant was closed on the only Sunday night that we could go-just another reason to visit London, right? I think if the Queen were to stop in, even she would be impressed.

Considering they specialise in pie and mash I was hugely disappointed here. The pie crumbles completely as soon as you stick a knife through it. There is just one gravy which they add the different ingredients to to make it the different options — the menu makes it look deceivingly diverse. I also had a Guinness and beef sausage which was overcooked and dry. The champ mash was good though. I would say this is a ££, not a £.

Being ‘new eat week’ at work, we took a wander down here today. The guy looked a bit flustered and could’ve done with some help behind the counter but he got to us in the end. I had high hopes for the place given the menu but watching him put the box together caused my heart to sink :( Creamy Mash with Horseradish: Drop some mash in a box, put a teaspoon of horseradish on top Cream Masy with Cheddar Cheese: Drop some mash in a box, put a teaspoon of grated cheese on top You’re probably starting to get the picture… The pie itself was smaller than my bowel evacuation this morning, and I didn’t have a big breakfast. The £1 portion of peas was a dessert-spoon’s worth. On coming back to work, the only comment was ‘that a recession pie?‘ The gravy was very tasty though, so I’ll throw in 2 stars for that.

Amazing and cheap. What can be better. My friend came to Europe for a few weeks and decided to stop in London for a few days. I stop by Mother Mash for a little take away before dropping by my flat to make gather up my friend and go act like tourist. How delicious. My friend is a vegetarian so I grabbed the one of the veg options they had. By the end of the meal, my friend was licking her plate. Now, just have to try one of their pies.

Stumbled upon this place during my lunch break today and figured it’d be cool to go in and check out what they were working with. When my companion and I walked in we thought it was a bit cramped with only three tables, but much to my delight there was an entire second floor of dining. The place is a sausage and mash specialist, but I went a different route and ordered a salad which included their two prime ingredients. Sticky apple sausage and sweet potato salad with a honey dressing. I can honestly say this was one of the best salads in which I’ve consumed in my life. Two people, two meals, two glasses of wine — £20. Will be going back agin during lunch — probably next week.

Nice spot for lunch in the City, instead of the usual Pret or Eat sandwiches. Mother Mash is focused on, duh, mashed potatoes and assorted pies. On two floors with restaurant seating, they also have a cooler full of sodas(mostly Coke and Diet Coke) as well as several beers. The menu is pretty simple — pick one each from column A, B and C. In column A is the centerpiece, the mash. You want it plain or with cheese or what I had: mature cheddar and mustard. Nice and sharp, but there was a TON of it. I left half behind. Column B is the«main» — pie or sausages. I had the steak pie. The crust was flavorful and delicate, but there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of steak stuffed in there. And Column C is the gravy. I had the classic«Traditional», a dark brown and flavorful gravy that met with the potatoes and mixed in nicely. No pudding for us at lunch time, but the next table over had some sort of berry pie(the same size as the steak pie) with custard that was tempting. Speedy service for lunch, I was pleased and I will return!
