Nancy’s Pantry is part-café for grown ups and part-play space for children; there are, as you would assume, so many things that could go wrong with this concept. The owners of this multipurpose café clearly have the magic hand, for I never seen a place that offers equitable recess for both parents and restless little tikes. I went earlier this week to meet with my two maternal friends, who are weekly playdate regulars there. And that’s the kicker: it’s really a spot for parents/nannies, their guests(like me) and children, so I wouldn’t come for a coffee or lunch if there’s not a child somehow involved with your presence. That could look REALLY weird. Nancy’s Pantry is well-designed, expansive and offers plenty of attractions & toys to distract the little ones; I was astounded that I heard no children cry or scream or shriek or fight with other children… they seem to love the place too. The adults get to relax and eat in a surprisingly chic space. If you removed the toys, playstations and astroturf, Nancy’s would be a hip, modern Dalston hangout. They have full range of healthy, tasty foods, an extensive menu separated for adults and children(of course). I had their small portion of lasagne with peas and enjoyed the homely taste. If you’re a parent, you(and your little one) would be hard-pressed not to fall in love with this place. The owners should really think about opening locations in other global cities; if I had the money I’d totally invest. A strong 5 stars.
