I was looking for a quick bite after 3pm when I noticed this Japanese restaurant, which was surprising since I’ve never seen it before on Exmouth Market. Ordered Katsudon with brown rice, and a pot of ocha. It was rather tasty, particularly since I’ve never had it served in brown rice before. They offer desserts, which seem to be popular with the customers. The interior is pleasant enough. Overall, I’m happy that there is a Japanese eatery in this location, and is decently priced. An average place of expected quality, but I would return again.

The sushi aren’t good, and we had an aubergine plate that was terrible. The prices are very reasonable but I don’t recommend it.

Visited this little Japanese café on a Tuesday afternoon. The menu seemed more suited toward their lunch special and savoury food, but I opted to try the matcha sponge cake with strawberry. I don’t think it was prepared in-house and it was a little expensive for the size, but the cake was decent. The space was clean and cutely decorated, but the food does not seem to be the freshest.

I was really craving green tea matcha desserts and drinks, so I decided to come to Necco based on the previous reviews. Because I was running short on time, I decided to just order a green tea matcha latte. It was a smaller size than I thought and for 3.30 pounds, it wasn’t that great. The matcha powder settled on the bottom of the latte and overall, the flavor was not rich. I also took a look at the desserts on display, but they didn’t look very fresh. Most people were ordering bento boxes, so I guess I’ll give those a try the next time I return to Exmouth market.

Nice little Japanese café in Exmouth Market. We came in here for dessert and some sake. Ambiance is good — nice and quiet good place to catch up with people. The green tea mouse was a it more dense than I would have expected. It should be fluffy, however, the flavour was spot on — really nice. A bottle of house warm sake was cheap — about £3 quid for 300ml — not bad. Whilst we already ate dinner, the food they were serving looked good — keen to try out the sushi next time!

Went in for some dessert and drinks. Got the green tea mouse… the mouse was more on the gelatin texture as opposed to fluffy mouse. The taste however was good. Lots of matcha green tea flavor. The 300ml hot sake was good. Don’t think I’d be back for the dessert, but I think I’ll come by to check out the sushi.

I walked past this little café all the time when I was studying at City U, and sometimes I would come to get lunch. Usually I get the tonkatsu bento, which isn’t half bad, but the fact that they microwave their food is kind of off-putting. Their noodles are, as a previous reviewer said, pretty dry. It’s a really cute place, though, nicely decorated, and there’s a selection of cold food and Japanese drinks as well. They have a little stamping card too, for locals or full-time students there.

The room is fantastic. It feels like you’ve walked into the inside of a strawberry cornetto that also happens to be used as a little old lady’s house. It’s so twee that you instantly feel cheerful when you sit down. It’s forced upon you! And I can be a grumpy man. The drink selection is what I liked best. They have lots of saké and plum wine. I heart plum wine. Very very much. Thank you Necco. The food was also great. A refreshing and filling sushi menu, and a broad selection of other Japanese food. The portions were nicely sized and the flavours were pungent and delicious. The sushi was prepared in sight of the tables by ladies dressed like they walked straight out of animé. It’s awesome. Although, I spent far too much money on plum wine…

All of the food is microwaved! This is more like airplane food than a restaurant. Pretty mediocre taste overall. Whatever noodles I got were dry and basically tasted like ketchup. Not exactly Japanese. The chicken donburi was also really mediocre.

Lovely, lovely Necco. Our neighbourhood Japanese café packs a huge amount of culinary love into a tiny space. Cute as a button, the felt menus and pink outside furniture would warm the heart of any Hello Kitty fan. The menu is surprisingly broad including hand assembled sushi, curry, noodles and whopping octopus balls. It also offers lunchtime selections, takeaway hot meals and japanese comestibles. Staff are mostly Japanese as are a good number of their customers. Try the chicken karaage which is absolutely delicious.

I recently returned to Necco and got a Japanese curry over rice for takeaway. This dish is one of my favourites and Necco’s rendition was solid, particularly for a takeaway. While it won’t win any culinary accolades, it does make for a satisfying lunch on a cold day.

Came around 2:30pm and all the bento food was all gone. Only thing left was a pork cutlet don. The only complaint about the don is the rice is not sushi rice. They didn’t offer me the menu and realised they could have cooked fresh food for me. As i been sitting there for a hour i watched customers come in and out and not one has been offered the menu! So these people thought the same thing as me no more bento food = nothing to eat. Food was about average, i found the miso soup quite sweet tasting then usual. EDITED The second time i visited was early around 12pm, i wanted freshly cooked food, but owner said it was only available after 6pm. I went here to get some green tea latte, yet the owner just told me no i can’t have it because it is only available at certain times. I wish they provided a normal menu, not every wants Miso or green as drinks, there’s no other alternative besides those. I did however enjoyed my green tea tarte!

A great little place to snag some authentic home made Japanese cooking on Exmouth Market in the heart of old Clerkenwell. Whether you want to takeaway some nice Maki Rolls, Sashimi, Onigiri or Teriyaki dish, or to have some wicked Spicy Slamon burger or something else to eat in, Nécco can take care of you. Even better they will help you make up your very own Bento box. Besides the funky design in white and pink, which will certainly appeal to the Hello Kitty fans out there, the friendly team offer up some pretty sweet cakes, and confectionery, as well as beers, sake and other licensed goods :) it makes a refreshing change to the factory line style sushi or Yo and Abeno and Necco is a nice addition to the Exmouth Market set. If you like Japanese then you should definitely check out their super fresh selection.
