I actually went to the salon in Sloane Square. Average haircut at extortionate rates. As nana h. says, ‘total rip off’, Along with false flattery comes the false pretence of being the best. Those unfortunate enough to believe it are the worst off. Had better cuts for 10 bucks. Never again.

This place was a total rip off. Me and my friend went for a haircut as walk-ins. We had stopped at 5 hair salons on the way and the highest price we got was 72BP for the cut with a senior stylist but none could take us at that time. We get to Nyumba and the receptionist rushed to get us a stylist to start both our haircuts. The place looked affordable and not fancy by any means! She didn’t explain to us anything about pricing. We assumed that the cut won’t be any more than 80BP based on every other salon we walked into. I got a man’s cut, my friend got a trim to the ends of her hair, no blow dry or any special service or treatment. We walk to the reception to pay upon check out and we see a bill for 680BP!!! That is 1020USD!!! We were just shocked and truly lost the words for a moment. My friend asks to explain the reason and if the receptionist made a mistake. He responds by saying that they don’t share the price when you walk in because they feel embarrassed. We went crazy! The guy kept saying that they are a luxury salon but honestly look at the f… Numbers! How could this make any sense?! The asshole went down a 100BP with the total cost and wouldn’t agree to honor the normal price range 60−85BP that is listed in their booklet. We basically got ripped off by bunch of thieves! I am guessing the 2 stylists and receptionist have an arrangement to rip off foreign customers and then share the profits. Either way, was a horrible and traumatic experience for a first time visit to London.

Nyumba is mainly known as a women’s hairdresser(Jemina Khan et al) but it can also trim your(male) sideboards, though it won’t wield a cut-throat razor. However, it has now taken on two former GF Trumper barbers who have a significant following and who now operate in Nyumba’s African-themed basement — Shane and John. They are good and friendly and don’t charge too much — welcome news in Mayfair
