O’Neils in Beckenham is quite a good pub. Its within staggering distance of the train and tram station which is useful. I’ve been in a couple of times to watch football with my football obsesssive boyfriend which is usually quite successful as even though it tends to get busy it is large enough and has enough TV screens to usually find somewhere to sit and watch it even if you don’t turn up early. The staff are friendly and efficient. I’d like to try the food — the menus look good for a quick cheap meal — but everytime we turn up they seem to be whipping the menus off the tables even though it’s only about 8pm? Maybe that’s because it gets very busy with drinkers.

Normally I’m not one to review chain pubs; there tends to be so little to tell, but I will make an exception for O’Neills. Mainly because its location round the corner from Beckenham Junction makes it ideal for scheduling into travel plans, but also because I’ve never had a bad day/night/all-dayer here. They’ve got the projection sports screens, Caffreys(a personal favourite) and quick, friendly service. I’m also a fan of their special menu with decent bites like burger and chips, sausage and colcannon, or a stew for only £2.95 a pop. They also stay open pretty late too; 1am yesterday(Thursday) with a disco to boot. I also discovered after that bar stool tour of Ireland I can dance to Whitney’s ‘I wanna dance with somebody’ unashamedlydidn’t do a lot for my chances of pulling though Oh, and there’s a handy kebabee and taxi firm round the corner.
