GOA, OHGOA. Goa is more than swaying palms, white sands and sparkling waters, its a state of mind. Nowhere else in India will you find the laid back languidness of a Goan lunchtime, siesta led afternoons, the easy charms of its people or the soothing serenity of a day on its beaches. From this idyllic sate on the western coast of India comes wonderful food. With the use of palm vinegar, coconut milk, chilies and spices, Goan cuisine is east meets west at its very best. Spice combinations and cooking techniques evolved through the centuries of Portugueseinfluence have resulted in dishes that have truly magical flavours and textures that are quintessentially . 1– Please switch off that radio blasting techno/pop tunes. It does not serve the place. 2– bring in some fresh air, and change the red paint coat on the wall. 3– foodwise, just ok. Parotta a bit overcooked, goan chicken good bit not spicy enough. — £ 89 per dish.

I hate to have to give out a 2* review, but frankly, I’d rather people didn’t waste their money at Palms of Goa. Given their namesake, you’d expect them to have some great Goan dishes and as I was going with some Indian friends, I had high expectations. Yet the moment you open the menu you start to lose hope. There’s just a list of normal non-Goan dishes. Only when you hit page ¾ do you see a small selection of Goan dishes. I decided to try the pumpkin curry, supposedly a Goan speciality. Undercooked pumpkin and a bland sauce. «Mmmmmm…tasty» this was not! My Indian friends weren’t happy with their food either — so this isn’t just a review by someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about! Price wise, the meal was quite cheap, and I guess in this instant you get what you pay for! In conclusion — spend your money elsewhere.
