I’ve been there recently. Stale pastries are a major turn off. Toilet messy.

Beautiful looking and tasty, but recently over the last couple of months I have found the pastries stale, doughnuts especially. Surely at the prices we should be eating pastries a few hours old, not days. Obviously as they are growing, delivery lines are becoming stretched, and, maybe where there were 2 deliveries before or a shorter distance from bakery to shop, this can’t be happening I don’t buy in the afternoon anymore, because it’s the same stuff that’s been sitting unprotected in the window for the 6 hours they’ve already been open. Shame.

We actually went to the Valerie at Sutton high Street but I could not find it on Qype so decided to post in here anyway. It was the best experience ever!!! Everything from customer service to tasty/delicious cakes was perfect! Very friendly and helpfull staff. And their cakes. Yummmm what can I say? I’m still dreaming of it!!!

Sure, the cakes look AMAZING. The café is based perfectly just by the town centre, but the prices are EXTREME! A cup of tea with a snazzy biscuit is about £2.50 and myself, as an Almond Croissant connoisseur, was so cold and paste-less that I would have preffered to have eaten a custard cream. And for about £2.50 a croissant, its expensive too! Why did I give a 2 then? Why didn’t I give it a one. Simple! The cakes are amazingly good looking!

If, like me, you have been to the original in Old Compton Street, and love it, you may be hugely disappointed. On both occasions when visiting the Kingston branch the service has been deadly slow, orders wrong and the food(cooked breakfast) cold. Complaints received a shrugged mumbled apology. The common denominator appears to be an inability to cope when it is very busy. I’m sure it is fine when it isn’t full or if you just want a coffee but it’s going to be a long time before I give it another go. Comparable alternatives are Carluccio, Paul and Moulon Rouge all of which offer superior consistency when busy. Very very disappointing.
