My cravings for Chinese food don’t come often. But when they do, nine times out of ten they’re fully satisfied by my local Chinese takeaway, Peking Garden. I have yet to find an easy to read menu at places such as this, but their beef chow mein always stands out against everything else for me and is always a large meal for a good price. Prawn crackers come complimentary if the price of your order exceeds £10, and cost only £1 for a whole packet if it doesn’t. The restaurant appears to be run by a family, and although the interior is a bit shabby they seem to be doing a good job of it. They do free deliveries too, so if for instance every Sunday is your junk food day, give Peking Garden a try.

Chinese take away food is dubious, I find, at the best of time. The problem is that most little take away joints just get it wrong. Although the food may taste decent, the oil and saltiness don’t do the food any justice. Peking Garden is much the same as many a Chinese take away in London. It’s certainly cheap, has all the usuals on the menu(the sweet and sour prawns are particularly nice) but you can certainly taste where they’ve cut corners to make the food affordable. This is great for a quick stop on the way back form a drunken night out, or if you are feeling lazy and don’t want to cook but don’t go out of your way to get to this place, I’ve tasted better.
