For the last 6 years I have come here in the first weekend in June to grab a lunch or a coffee, or even just a 5 minute break. I love it. The staff are friendly, interested in local goings on and willing open early. The front windows pull back to open into the street which allows you to soak up the sun in comfort or to wait for the event to start at the Town Hall across the road with a snack. With the bus stop for the 73, 476 and 393 just outside you can grab a coffee whilst you wait and be certain not to miss the next bus(if it’s the 393) coming along. To me the chicken escalope panini is the best, but that’s not to say I have tried everything on the menu. I haven’t even, and this will shock my friends, had the lasagne there yet. But I fully intend to when I am up that end of church street and not running around like a blue-arsed fly! Seriously I love this place, more than any of the other café’s on Church Street.

Cute small place right across Stoke Newington Town Hall, which is an impressive sight. Cozy, with two baroque mirrors at the walls, cupids on the cornice and some local artist’s art on display(from £70-£170) — but the etchings that I liked were already sold, so no ‘drawing of a hare’ for me. I had an oldschool milk coffee(ok, soft taste), a very sweet and very green spinach-walnut cake — the colour somehow promised more excitement, but it was a decent buttery something. My friend chose the daily soup: hot lentils. Looked tasty to me and came with buttered sandwiches. The lady at the counter was lovely. A nice, quiet place to sit down after a walk in the parks.

At last a rival for the popular but crowded ‘Spence’. Delightful service and delicious offerings to accompany wonderful coffee. A ‘must try’ spot in Stokey!

Lovely friendly pit stop. This café is so well established and everything is very generous. I’ll be back!

I’m not really sure why this place has refurbed and gone for the fluro green option, I’m surprised the Church Street tasteful décor police haven’t been on the case, but despite the colour Petit Coin is a lovely little spot for some Stoke Newington style snacking. Friendly and cosy, they serve pastries and sandwiches. There are so many of these kinds of places on Church Street it’s often hard to choose but they do a lovely pecan pie and a very refreshing cucumber and melon drink, you can eat in or take away.
