This is my favourite branch of the ubiquitous Pizza Express chain. Located in the middle of Wimbledon Village’s upmarket High Street, it is spread over two floors. The downstairs is dominated by the open kitchen area, which means you can see your food being prepared, although it can also feel a bit like Piccadilly Circus when they’re busy, since it is a little cramped. The décor has references to tennis and the Wombles(look them up if you are too young to remember them). The reasons it is my favourite, though, have nothing to do with décor. Firstly, they do the best pizza I’ve tasted across the chain, and on a really good night they are up there with the best pizza I’ve ever had(and given I’ve travelled extensively in the USA and Italy, that is definitely a compliment). And the staff have always been consistently friendly and obliging. The only occasional failing has been a wait for the bill(a pet hate of mine) but I’m still more than happy to go back.
