I also got to have a tour around the Redemption brewery a couple of weeks back — and rather good it was too. The London brewing scene is growing again, filling the gap made by the departure of Young’s with a bunch of smaller brewers making an interesting range of beer. Andy Moffat’s Redemption has jumped into the fray producing only a couple of beers, but both quite different and rather good. Being a hoppy golden ale fan I preferred the Redemption Pale Ale, but with winter drawing in the Urban Dusk will shortly be on my go to list if I see it on. Distribution isn’t massive, as Andy delivers the beer himself and has a brewery to run and more beer to make, but is hitting the pubs and bars across London quite regularly. Also, if you get a chance to talk to Andy about beer — do so. He lead our gang of beer fans through the making process, with measuring cylinders and hydrometers appearing as well as buckets of yeast, and bags of hops and malt. He knows what he’s talking about and seems happy to share.

When invited to a tour of Redemption’s Brewery I couldn’t turn down the chance to find out more about their great ales and how they are made. Andy the owner of Redemption showed us around and explained how it all happens, the chemistry behind it, and how different flavours are brought out in the different ales. I am a huge fan of Redemptions Urban Dusk, which has a hint of coffee flavour. An ale that goes perfectly with cozy pubs and winter fires. London could defiantly use more microbreweries so I will be doing my part in drinking lots of Redemption ales. I look forward to seeing Redemption lots around London in the future as they are sure to gain a strong following with such great ales.

What a fantastic and interesting place! I was amazed to see the number of variables involved in brewing beer. Both beers we sampled were delicious, the Urban Dusk being my favorite. After last night I am going to do more to support London micro brews and encourage my friends to try different beers rather than going for the same old boring lagers. I hope to find some redemption on tap at a pub near me soon!

Redemption Brewing Company do some excellent beer. It’s a strange thing to list on Qype because you can’t just rock up there and buy a pint at the bar. But, after we did our Ale tasting event in conjunction with them, and we’re planning a tour with them shortly, it seems only fair they get their own listing. Besides, they do really really good beer. I love London’s microbreweries. They always come up with something new and exciting, and there’s something nice about your beer feeling local. Like drinking wine of the region when you’re in Italy. It’s the same thing. And Redemption do a damn good pale ale too. That’s actually surprisingly strong. Always forget that. And then fall over. Whoops. I haven’t met anyone who didn’t enjoy a pint of Redemption and they’ve done really well this year. You’ll spot them in lots of decent pubs across London now(I sound like one of those adverts that says ‘all good stockists’, but it’s true). If you do luck out and find their beer on tap, do grab yourself a pint.
