We finally made it to Reubens, a real highlight amongst the ubiquitous and totally uninspiring high street chains lining Baker Street. On arrival we got a lovely welcome from a gentleman who appeared to be the owner, who also explained to us about some of the dishes on offer and about the more formal restaurant downstairs. We eat in the buzzing deli upstairs, which made a nice change eating dinner in an establishment offering the more informal yet hard to find(especially in the evening) counter service. We thoroughly enjoyed the salt beef sandwich, which was excellent, and the meatballs and the latke which I had never tried before washed down with kosher wine. The gentleman with who we spoke to on arrival also came up to us during our meal and asked if everything was okay, which it definitely was. We will definitely be back, and we’re not even Jewish, so go on and give it a try whatever your faith.

Visited the Delhi section for lunch with my colleagues. The staff was very friendly and accommodating even though we turned up with 8 people during the busy lunch hour. Had the salt beef and fries — absolutely to die for. Will definitely come back next time in the neighbourhood.

The staff are friendly and the outside seats are just perfect to enjoy a nice afternoon. We had salt beef sandwiches which were on the dry side of smoked meats. If you’re after proper salt beef sandwich, then this place is not for you. There are many better places in London(and a couple of them are just around the corner).

Best salt beef sandwich(aka corned beef in the U.S.). Hand carved piping hot. To die for. I’ve been back for the third time this month.

This time we had fried codfish: good but bland. Unimpressive vegetables. Salt beef was again good, but it ‘s the kind of place a rabbi friend calls a «be glad we’re here, kosher folks» restaurant. We skipped dessert – here. Takeout foods are not measured by weight, but by container, which, of course, can be more or less full for the same price. Odd!

Heed to the advice on almost all other reviews for Reubens and stick to the upper-floor deli. Land early for lunch, or very late, for the place is super busy during peak lunch hours. Onto the food then – anything from the sandwiches portion of the menu is sure to leave you(a) full and(b) content. The meat is amazing, whatever it be. I generally stick to salt beef on rye with mustard. But a shoutout must go to the schnitzel, which is outstanding. Unlike a lot others I have had, this one’s still moist on the inside – perfectly breaded and seasoned. It’s a party in your mouth! And a mention to the humble chips. They are gorgeously thick cut, yet crunchy on the outside – a perfect accompaniment to the sandwiches. Nice place, warm people!

As a card-carrying MOT I like to think I know a thing or two about deli. Sure, I regularly question the logic that people of a specific ethnicity are best suited to rate their own cuisine, I mean, my buddy Raj doesn’t know fuck all about food, but suddenly his Indian recommendations are indubitable, utter bullshit. Rueben’s salt beef is great. It’s better than the Brass Rail at Selfridges by a shtetl mayl, which is actually one of two things I’ve had there, the other being matzo ball soup. The matzo ball soup is not fantastic; the broth tastes instant and the kneidlach are heavy and not particularly flavourful. Annoyingly, if they run out of bagels they insist you buy a half or full sandwich which aren’t as good a value, if £6.75 for a bagel sandwich can be considered a good deal. If you like to either feel very at home if you’re Jewish, or probably kind of out of place if you’re not, Reuben’s is your spot!

Really delicious matzo ball soup. It’s not on the menu, but they definitely have it prepared. The matzo balls are tender and moist, which is why it is better than the rest.

The best chopped liver and salt beef sandwiches in the UK pickles matzah and chicken soup. Oh my god I love it I would recommend anyone to come into here The food is delicious and tasty It’s slightly expensive but the ambience will make up for it.

Wow can’t move after the Reubens sandwich — everyone has to try it once. Allow extra room by loosening your belt.

I am amazed by the positive reviews here. This has to be _the worst_restaurant I have ever had the misfortune to dine at. First, the deli counter is dirty and the food is disgusting. We asked to be served and they told us waiter service is in the basement. We went to the basement to learn they don’t serve sandwiches. The atmosphere in the basement was exactly that — an empty crowded basement, clearly a fire hazard, and equally filthy as above. We stayed(wish we didn’t, but we were starving and it was the only place around). The chicken soup was loaded with oil. I ordered a steak, which came soaked(drenched) in some horrible sauce obviously added to mask the«taste» of the steak. My wife ordered salt beef which to our American pallets tasted like salted cardboard. The bill for two came out to GBP75. Huh? That was money well spent, we learned an important life lesson — trust your gut, never eat in a dirty spoon place and never ever eat in Reubens! On leaving, I asked the proprietor to call us a cab(the jerk was busy cleaning the counter). His response — we don’t call cabs! I made a slight(honestly) protest, at which point the counter boy(says he was the owner, but it just can’t be) called me a lunatic! A lunatic? For asking a restaurant proprietor to call us a cab at night? So my ratings for this place on a scale from one to five: Atmosphere: 0 Cleanliness: 0 Food Quality: 0 Service –100! Do yourself and your stomach a favor, stay away from this disgusting excuse for a dining establishment.

Number one choice for an authentic, kosher, salt beef sandwich in London. Based right in the heart of Baker St, it’s got just what you need after a long day. If you’re feeling particularly swanky, head downstairs to the restaurant for some perfectly cooked steak.

My first Jewish Deli experience in London — oh so worth it! I came here in search of a Reuben. I’d heard it was good and had to taste it for myself. You know you’re in the right place for Reubens when a staff person is cutting up the brisket and laying the slices on the bread for expediting. I asked for a Reuben and the staff asked me how I’d like it. I told them on rye bread, sauerkraut, and russian dressing. The staff person said they didn’t have any russian dressing and that they would have to make it. The nice lady cutting the brisket said she’d make some. See??? Right there. That’s how you take care of a customer! I waited patiently while she constructed the behemoth of a sandwich. It was a double decker sandwich with enough meat for two, maybe three sandwiches, along with a bit of English mustard, pickles, and tomato. What a delight! Overall, it was a FANTASTIC sandwich, and great service to match. I also got 10% off from Unilocal, which was a nice added touch! Will I be back? Hell Yes! Oh, and by the way… Totally killed the sandwich in preparation for a post-lunch coma!!!

Normally I avoid kosher restaurants as they tend to be xerox copies of restaurants– a watered down affair which exists to serve a kosher version of a particular cuisine. A kosher deli is not so rare, and often they are good, but they are rarely good first and kosher second. This place however is outstanding. The fish and chips was a serving for two and the batter was golden brown and twice what’s usually found. The brisket was fantastic. The schwarma was great although no better than at a good doner shop– so the fact that it is kosher is the selling point for the schwarma. We ate only at the deli(upstairs) and I’d happily eat there again. Best fish/chips I ever tasted.

You want to know what to get at Reubens? It’s all in the title, man. This is one of the only non-chain restaurants on Baker Street and I will say, definitely, that it is worth it to check out. Now, be warned, there are two parts to Reubens: the restaurant downstairs and the deli upstairs. I’m not a giant fan of the restaurant. It’s nice but upscale and stuffy and everything is a little too overpriced. Still, if you’re looking for a nice businesses lunch out with well dressed waiters and white linens in this touristy part of town, this is where to go. However, the deli above is where it is at. Great selections of meats and salads for a good price. They make a damn good sandwich right in front of you, nothing pre-made or pre-processed. And of course, it’s the Reuben where things are really at. For £12, you get a monster double decker sandwich filled with meat, pickles and your choice of sauerkraut or mustard. Mmm. And the salt beef to go with it is hot and soft and tasty as all get out. They know how to do it well. Stick with the deli(they even have seating for it inside or outside) and you cannot go wrong.

We popped in here for lunch on Colleen C’s recommendation. I was a bit unsure as to how the place worked — here’s my summary: join the end of the line, grab a tray and make your choice. I’d spied chicken schnitzel as we entered so I had to go for that. It was a little pricey(around £11) but it was worth it — it was nearly the size of the plate. They’ll bring your food out to your table so don’t stand around waiting(like we did!). The seating area is pretty casual and relaxed. Your meal is brought out to you so make sure you pick up cutlery when you’re ordering. I really liked the chicken schnitzel, nicely crispy with a really tasty chicken breast inside. It came with a salad which I avoided but it looked nice and fresh. This place was great. Comfortable, relaxed, friendly and tasty food. You also get 10% off for checking in — the staff knew about this deal and seemed excited to have a bunch of Unilocalers in. So make sure you use it! I’d definitely come back here as everyone who ate here(all 8 of us) were happy/overjoyed with their meals. Pretty great result in my opinion.

My notion was correct: I’d vote for the deli upstairs. Downstairs is a bit stuffy and selection much more high end and expensive as my last review entailed. BUTTHEDELI! OHTHEDELI. Do it. Some colleagues and I popped in for a takeaway lunch a few days ago and were pleasantly there just as they opened for lunch(1130am). I went with a chopped liver sandwich(very rich), but really should’ve gone for the corned beef sandwich — which is a MONSTER. The salads looked fresh and dense, and my lautchen was a super sweet treat with sultanas, vermicelli noodles and a bright yellow color. Delicious when warmed up! The«mom» of the shop was a true treat and she treated us like family! *10 percent off when using check in offer(upstairs deli only) via Unilocal app. Loved my first visit to the deli, much different experience than upstairs. * Deli is cash only.

I enjoyed the ambiance and service very much here. The food was really tasty. I had the steak and requested that it be medium… and it was… We sat down for table service downstairs and received very nice service. The next day we even ate upstairs at the takeout deli. The food was delicious and very well done. Upstairs they only take cash, but there is a sign that says so. so no worries there. Downstairs they do take visa and mastercard but not Amex.

Vraiment miam.

I rarely get to chow down Jew style like I did at Reubens. They had literally every delicacy from my childhood for me to ooh and ahh over, including the motherlode of all Jewy greatness — gefilte fish. My grandmother took the recipe for her homemade gefilte fish to the grave, so it is my proverbial«madeleine.» Just one taste of a great gefitle can send me reeling back in time to my grandma’s dining room table surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins during our holiday family meet-ups. So when I spotted not one, but two kinds of gefilte at Reuben’s I knew what I had to order. For variety sake, I chose the deep fried gefilte fish which I’d never seen before and it was amazing. Not greasy at all, the fish was the perfect consistency, delicately flavored and presented in elegant slices along with a ramekin of incredible homemade horseradish. Even my non-Jewish dining partners tried it and loved it, which is quite a statement. Every thing else we had at our table –from schnitzel and corned beef to hummous, beet salads and latkes — was fantastic. Even though we enjoyed a 10% reduction thanks to their Unilocal check-in offer, my one critique(and therefore the four instead of 5 stars) was the fact that they accept only cash, not easy when you’re paying for a table of ten.

THE place to go for corned beef(‘salt beef’ to the locals) in London. This place does it just as good as anything in New York. Sadly, the rye bread is a little lacking, reminding me of the texture(though not the taste) of Wonder Bread. Note: cash or debit card only. Also, because it’s a strict kosher restaurant, there’s no swiss cheese on your roast beef sandwich. It’s the law. :-)
