Comfortable local café with good food, though slightly slow service. I had to wait a half hour for my order, even though the café was barely half full, but it was well worth the wait. I got a huge ciabatta sandwich with tender, juicy grilled chicken and bacon(a CBLT, if you will) with a small side salad and crisps, all for £5.85! The atmosphere is cosy and calm, even on a Sunday afternoon when every other café in Crouch End is heaving and chaotic. Will definitely be back. They have some delicious-looking cakes I need to sample…

The Rocking Chair Café is a very cozy place, where I spend a lovely lunch this past week: with a copy of the Guardian and a hot & steamy bean stew and some homemade fresh bread. My lunch was part of the specials menu and I only realised later that they have a special deal where you can get a lunch special for £7.95, which includes a main and either a soup/salad or a dessert. Although this café is a relatively new addition to the Crouch End foodie scene, it already seems to have gathered some followers, as there was a happy crowd mingling inside it when I got there.(This being baby-happy Crouch End, you will encounter loads of mummies with their buggies; especially since they have dedicated the back part of the place to children.) I saw that they were offering a variety of Viennese desserts and I asked the woman behind the counter if the chef was Austrian. Turns out, he’s Czech, but with a big heart for Austrian patisseries… those Buchteln looked amazing!
