Cosy and welcoming restaurant. It is so sad that it is closed now. I hope that I’ll have an opportunity to go there again in the future.

Lovely little restaurant with nice décor and atmosphere. The food is fairly nice as well as the drinks. There’s a wide range of food and drinks offered in the menu for such a small place. The service is nice and fast, but staff could be more polite and the prices are affordable.

Looks like the Rose and Crown has been writing it’s own reviews! I know the village well and this is the worst place in the village by along shot. You find better: try The Red Lion & Sun or Cote. If you want cheap then you can still do better. DON’T DOIT

Lovely little neighbourhood restaurant, great service and decent wine choices, plus a good selection of cocktails.

Rose ‘N’ Crown offers a £10 fixed price lunch… and it’s a steal! Considering most of their mains go for upwards of £15, getting two courses(out of a selection of three) is superb. I imagine they change frequently, but the selections for the prixe fixed menu were pork rillettes, crab and basil risotto, and an eggy bread the day we visited. I opted for the rillettes and risotto, while my dining companion had the rillettes and eggy bread. I doubt either of us could have gone wrong. I was honestly satisfied after my first dish — the rillettes were presented beautifully, in two diagonal cylindrical hunks with a few slices of toast and a small mound of crisp arugula. The smear of grain mustard offered an extra kick to the chill meat, though it was quite savory on its own. I didn’t even make it through the risotto — it was rich beyond my ability to handle with their generous serving. Still, the crab flavor was very evident(so if you’re not into shellfish flavor, I’d steer clear) but the brilliantly verdant basil oil jazzed up the dish with ferocity. Apparently there was some miscommunication between the staff, because we ended up waiting a good twenty minutes for my friend’s second course(a dessert). The lone manager/server was exceptionally apologetic, and even offered us a free coffee for the error. I thought she was quite generous, and we weren’t put out, being engrossed in our own little world anyhow. Be sure to take a peek at the restrooms. I’d love to install one of those sinks in my flat!

Lovely pub, looks like a nice quality boozer from the front but a cosy restaurant from the back. We ended up sitting in the back garden which is small and nice The drinks list isn’t to exciting but we found a nice bottle to share. The food was pretty bad especially for the price. I was fairly disappointed as I had been there 8 months previously and the meal was great. I don’t know, Maybe they have changed their kitchen team, maybe I just caught the kitchen b team, maybe they have stopped caring about there food anyhoo end result I left feeling negative. Shame really.

Well worth popping by the village for and a refreshing change from the many chain restaurants in the area. Mid-week dinner menu is not only amazingly tasty but great value. we enjoyed a pea and mint soup, and ham hock to start, followed by steak and ale pie. Perfect pastry but a little stingy on the veg portions, and the jus was a little rich. Also — on a complete aside — fantastic toilets!

I had a meal here on a Wednesday night and made use of the £15 for two courses deal. Fish cake starter was very tasty though a little too much salt and the Irish organic salmon main was beautiful. A plesent surprise was the quality of their Guinness. It was st paddy’s night so good Guinness was a great bonus.

The Rose and Crown has recently been voted the Best British restaurant in the South East in the Archant London Food & Drink Awards 2009. Well done and well deserved

I totally agree with Brodule above. The place is a posh pub with a posh restaurant(come on, there were tablecloths!) and a lovely beer garden. It doesnt seem like it would be a pub, except for the whole tap area in the front entry. I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon after a nice Autumn walk around the park. The menu was enticing, but I had to go traditional and have the roast. I have uploaded some photos, so you can see how delightul it looked(and believe me it was tasty too), but it was bit expensive for the portion. For dessert I ordered some sort of chocolate scrumptiousness. It was well worth it. On the disappointing side, my veggie friend lacked options and went with the pea soup(also pictured). It was an amazing green and came with some fantastic biscuits. I would definitely return to the Rose and Crown if I found myself in Highgate again, or just wanted to get out of the town and feel a bit more like I’m in a country gastropub.

Beautiful Highgate Village is home to the equally beautiful Rose and Crown gastro-pub. The décor is contemporary, with an upmarket restaurant vibe, that gives the impression of quality. It was midday so I went for the lunch menu. Any main course for £9.95 seemed like a decent offer from the otherwise expensive menu. I chowed down on fish and triple fried chips. The mint infused mushy peas and tartare sauce finished the dish. It was good, not exemplary, just good. I often muse over how I feel about paying over the odds for what is essentially tarted up pub grub. But this is the crazy world we live in and the Rose & Crown should not be penalised for this. Expect good food, in quaint, pretty surroundings and the slightly painful slap in your wallet.

This is a fine restaurant posing as a gastropub, because of the previous use of the building. Went for dinner, outstanding! Every dish was well thought out, beautifully cooked and nicely presented. Dessert was particularly good. A good selection of quality wines to match serious food. And a recent return visit also confirmed it is still up to spec.

This is quite a small, traditional English pub. Feels a little like you’re stepping into the past which is great. Get the table by the window for a prime people-watching position.
