Came for Sunday lunch. Took a number at 1pm and waited about 30mins. Good dim sum but the crispy aromatic duck was extremely dry. Service was chaotic to say the least. Our teapot needed refilling but we were ignored for easily an hour. When we eventually flagged someone down, they took the teapot and it never came back! Ordered dessert, waited another long while only to discover that our order was never put in. Sigh.

We arrived a bit after 4 looking for Dim Sum. Service was acceptable but could have been more friendly and helpful. We were told that the Dim Sum service was about to end so that we needed to place our complete order immediately. One of the soups we ordered turned out not to be available after the order was taken. Dim Sum was good, won ton soup was OK.

Very nice upscale Cantonese restaurant with delicious food and awesome service, something can’t be found in even New York

Food is good but a bit overpriced. Sadly staff is not attentive at all. It all takes too long. Maybe you need to be in big group to ‘gain’ attention. ;-)

went for Sunday dim sum, the food is great, both in terms of taste and varieties. service was efficient once we are seated. the restaurant itself is also nice, Chinese but not too over crowded that you need to shout in order to converse with people at your table. the only one thing I was annoyed is the inflexibility of having us to wait till the whole table arrive in order to be seated, after I have explained to them that our friends were on their way and were only shortly delayed due to issue with the kid. I don’t really see the rational behind that we can not sit down and have a sip of tea already while we waited.

Was a regular here for years but stopped coming here… had actually forgotten why so decided to visit for dinner… No complaints about the service but the food tasted bland. simple dishes like schezuan prawns and egg fried rice just did not taste as good… i then remembered why i stopped coming here as it had lost its charm… Sad as started off really well here… perhaps like the other review said the royal china club is where the good food is now…

Really poor customer service — will never be back. Served us raw Siu Mai dim sum which our toddler ate some of before we realised. Manager laughed and didn’t seem apologetic and didn’t even bother to take it off the bill for us. Our son wandered off for a second while we were attending to our infant and we were so worried I asked in English if they could make an announcement the waitress seemed annoyed and said«I don’t understand Chinese»(what the heck!?). Luckily our son returned(albeit in tears). There are much better dim sum places out there.

Sure are there better Chinese but this an institution. Staff are«non– fussy»(terrible but efficient) but the food is as good as it will get at that price. Absolute favourite is dim sum sunday brunch.

My title was a very suitable and honest description for this restaurant. Our waiter gave you the attitude that he really did not want your business. We ordered our food in American English, Queen’s English, four different Chinese dialects and also pointed the food items on the menu. He still had problems to understand the food items that we wanted to order. They gave you only one pot of tea for the entire table and they charged 2.20 Pound per person for tea. We paid 17.60 Pound just for one pot of tea!! They also automatically added service charge to your bill too.

It’s basically the FAKE version of «the royal china club», thats why the food quality and the presentation is absolutely terrible. Literally imagine below average messy chinese food coming from a fancy pricy menu on the table. We ordered the roast duck which was over cooked Lemon chicken which was very dry and beyond sweet. Beef and ginger which was very smelly and chewy. And the starter which was fried squid was cold and again not fresh, we paid 150£ which was absolute waste of money and literally left the food on the table and will never come back or recommend that place.

This place has tasty dim sum and is my to go to place whenever I’m in London — I’m of Asian decent and also had dim sum all of my life from various restaurants from Asia to the US… The ambiance is good, it’s not rough Chinatown environment but more of a classier calmer establishment with mixed crowds(many people were not Asian when I go). I am especially a fan of their chicken feet(in brown sauce) and their steam roast pork buns. They were able to get the buns perfectly steamed, with the fillings perfectly stuffed and taste. I also had other dishes which were good including the Singapore Curry Noodles. The service was good and they were very prompt in serving me my dishes, giving me more tea and setting the bill when I was ready. They even gave me a lovely container to pack some of the takeaway steam roast pork burns because they were so good, i wanted to take some more with me for my flight home!

I came here in March with Julia D and some of her friends to experience some London dim sum. We met up at 1:30 pm and the place was packed out with people hanging around by the door. If you put your name down a table will become available fairly soon(within 30 minutes) as the place is massive. We ordered an eclectic mix of food including steamed pork buns, fried dumplings, fried rice and won ton noodle soup. All of the food was delicious and cost less than £100 for four people. I’ve always struggled to find good Chinese food in London so I’m glad that I came to Royal China.

This place must make an absolute mint! A constant stream of people make it almost certain you will have to Que on the weekends but weekdays are usually quieter. The food is very good and having been forced to try other dim sum /yum cha options this is the only place that we always return to. The service is typical Chinese restaurant style. seat, eat, get out with minimum fuss. They will only seat you when the whole group is here… Don’t even bother to argue or negotiate with them as it will fall on deaf ears and they won’t care if you take your business else where, it’s not goin to effect them. The food is usually delivered within minutes of ordering and I’ve never had bad food here. The seating is functional and they can cater for couples or large groups. Price is very reasonable in comparison to other places similar but for a much higher standard of food.

Had dim sum while I was visiting London and I felt like I was back home in OC. My friends and I ordered all the classics and they were all delicious. We also ordered the crispy duck and it was so good with the scallions, cucumbers, and wrap.

This was the worst service I ever received. Manager and deputy manager were both extremely rude and to be honest I’ve gotten better service from cheap five pound Chinese restaurants… was very disappointed as I was a big fan but today the service proved that they have no class and no respect. Won’t be coming back anytime soon

My friend Vina and her husband invited me and Matt B to meet them here. I’ve had a lot of dim sum in San Francisco but this was my first London experience. We ordered har gao, shrimp and chive dumplings, steamed pork buns, won ton noodle soup, shrimp fried rice, noodles with shrimp inside, fried dumplings, custard tarts, and lotus buns. Everything was delicious. Four adults and a two year old: the total was 95 pounds. Not horrible for a perfectly prepared meal and two hours of endless tea. Service was prompt. We waited 30 minutes for a table at 1:30pm on a Sunday. It seemed to get less crowded around 3. People who like good Chinese food need to come here asap.

Only 3 stars for this restaurant as we visited for dinner and missed the lunch time dim sum menu(I’m sure I would have given it a higher rating otherwise!). A very nice looking venue, lovely décor and was quite busy on a Friday night so just as well we had booked in advance. We were shown to our table and looked through the medium sized menu. I did struggle to find a main course that appealed and didn’t pull at my purse strings at the same time. For starters, we ordered salt and pepper prawns which were not on the menu but we asked the waitress(who looked incredibly bored). They were lovely and the chili added a nice kick. Also ordered the pork dumplings which were delicious and were in a spicy sauce(yum). Both were decent sized portions. For mains, we ordered vegetable crispy noodles and duck and prawn rice wrapped in lotus leaf. The noodles came in a tasty sauce and the rice tasted good with the spicy sauce from the pork dumplings otherwise would have been a bit bland and dry. Pleased and full with the meal, we saw the bill came with a 13% recommended service charge. Unimpressed with the service and the lack of emotion from the staff, we told the waiter we did not want to pay it. upon which he practically forced us to despite us pointing out that it was only recommended. Not wanting to create a scene, we paid the full amount which came up to just over £22 each. Overall, it was a decent experience but I can’t say I’ll be visiting for dinner again but for lunch instead.

Probably the best dim sum in the UK. The usual classics plus some more contemporary affairs in a nice inoffensive setting of traditional black lacquer. Service is good for a dim sum restaurant and prices are very reasonable given the quality. If you want good and real dim sum in London this I s a hard place to beat.

One of the better places for dim sum in town and right across from Unilocal London HQ! Although can be confusing, there’s two royal china’s, except one is the royal china club and posher. But I don’t do posh dim sum.(I’ve never been to alan yau’s enterprises either…) What’s more, I usually yum cha with a bunch of people and we order the whole menu. This time, only the two of us– which means this is a dim sum challenge. Hah! Not really, my friend and I decided to opt for 7 small dishes. So we got some classics– shanghai buns, bbq pork buns, siu mai and taro croquettes. Then some specials, crabmeat siu mai, pumpkin tofu and crispy sesame roll. Surprisingly, since they’re only small dishes, it was the right amount of food and it’s the first time I’ve walked away from dim sum quite comfortable! Although that might also be the oil, it was much less oily than other places I frequent! But it is slightly more expensive! and don’t forget the 13% service charge too! Weird thing though, it’s very much geared towards an english speaking clientele, I MISSMYBALLOTSHEETORDERING. I do, it’s more antisocial but seriously, dim sum is very much about catching up and chinese people don’t stop to order. we pencil what we want on the ballot order and give it to the staff. done. way more efficient too! To end this review, and in the oh-so wise words of david and goliath. You dim sum, you win some. :)
